Hawthorne, Mae
Mae Hawthorne, 92, of Port Arthur died December 16, 1996 at Gulf Health Care Center. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with burial at 2 p.m. at Friendship Cemetery near Jasper. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Diboll, she had lived in Port Arthur 54 years. Survivors include her husband, Zora Hawthorne of Port Arthur; daughters, Mary Lou King of Broaddus and Doris Ostrander of the Woodlands; sisters, Annabel Stringer of Orange, Bernice Ledet of Sour Lake, Johnnie Hawthorne of Kountze and Corine Hamilton of Albuquerque, N.M.; brothers, J.C. Fairchild of Athens; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Merritt Mullen shows her as a daughter of William Henry Fairchild and Louisa C. Dickerson. Henry Lee notes that she and Dr. W. Lafayette Lee were first cousins.
In December, 2011, a descendant emailed that "Minnie Belle....is buried in Stone County, Mississippi, a Wiggins cemetery. Minnie married Reuben W. Lowery [and had two daughters].
Minnie and Ruben and the two girls were living in Wiggins at the time that Minnie died after the birth of a son; the baby died too. Minnie and the baby are buried in Wiggins. Ruben and the two girls took a train up to the Seminary area where some of his older children lived. Ruben died soon after. They said he was an old man and grieved himself to death. Fletcher, one of his grown sons, and his wife took in the two younger children, Gladys and Audrey, ages 4 and 2, and raised them."
At the time of the 1880 Census, Nancy and Isaac Luther were living with a C.N. and Cornelia Smith in Gallatin Township, Copiah County, Mississippi. Two older children were in the home with him, 14 year old Alice and 12 year old Alonzo. They appear to have been Isaac's children from a prior marriage.
Said to be one of the ten sons of Thomas Fairchild of Stratford.
Among the early settlers in this country was Thomas Fairchild, a native of England, who located at Stratford in 1639 and became one the leading pioneers of the place, being named by both Barber and Hollister as the first magistrate there?. It is likely that the name was originally Fairbairn, and that the family went to England from Scotland at a very early period. Thomas Fairchild, the pioneer settler at Stratford, was twice married and had several children. (37; CBR)
"The following spring seventeen families, including about sixty persons, on foot and on horse-back, threaded their way through the wilderness from Wheathersfield, forded the Pootatuck, and halted at the red man's Cupheag and named it home. How familiar to us are many of the names on the lips of the settlers that day as they addressed one another? Blakeman, Fairchild, Curtis, Sherwood, Judson, Wilcoxson, Beardsley? a real Stratford in miniature, small in numbers but not in extent, as the original township embraced most of the land afterwards? They were landed at the mouth of Mack's Creek where the settlers made a temporary abiding place? huts, tents and meeting-house? until the division of the land could be affected." (39; Stratford's 250th Anniv.)
Merritt Mullen shows her as the daughter of Robert FAIRCHILD and Nancy TAYLOR. He also notes that she may have been born in Georgia instead of South Carolina.
At the time of the 1920 census, she was living with her son and daughter in law, John and Mary Coleman, in New Orleans. Son Benjamin was living in the adjacent household. Both sons worked in the shipyards.

His FindAGrave memorial page, created by Jeff Hubbard, links him to his parents, Bulin and Sarah E. Faircloth, both buried at the Elizabeth Missonairy Baptist Church Cemetery in Bonnetsville.
A relative of Sheryl Falk, Diane Kramer, indicated that after searching "Emigration Records and German Birth and Baptismal Records" she found their common ancestor, Andreas Falker, from Siefersheim, Hessen, about 48 miles from Darmstadt which is listed as where he was from on all records after his marriage records. She added that Lutheran Church Baptismal Records in Baden, Germany show he was born Feb 9, 1845. This is consistent with Walter Falk (Sr)'s "birthday book" entry of Feb 8 or 9, 1845. This also fits with his marriage to Katherina in a Lutheran church in Monroe.
Diane added that Baptismal records list his parents as Adam Falk and Susanna Mebus Falk who married Nov 4, 1841.Adam's father was named Andreas, so it looks like Andrew was named after his grandfather.Andrew also had a sister Frederika Catharina Falk who was born May 14, 1843, two years before him. Susanna's parents, and therefore Andrew's grandparents, were Joh Lorenz Mebus and Catherina Mebus.
The German Emigration Registry shows Andrew purchased passage (meaning legally registered to emigrate) April 1, 1867 in Mainz, Germany and listed his birth as 1845 and place of origin as Siefersheim. He departed later that same year, but from where exactly or the name of the ship Diane still doesn't have.
In an earlier post to a genealogy message board, Diane indicated that Andrew died ca 1881 in Ohio.

Benjamin Andrew Falk of Austin, Texas passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2023, in Austin, Texas at the young age of 34. His family is heartbroken by his untimely passing but finds comfort in knowing Ben had a noble end, dying while helping friends with an Eagle Scout Project in the Texas heat.
Ben was born in Austin, Texas on January 12, 1989, to the late legendary Texas artist, Walter S. Falk, III and Rhonda Stout Falk, who survives him. Ben is also survived by the love of his life, Alyssa Ferguson, their precious daughter, Frannie Anne and their son, Walter S. Falk, IV expected to arrive this winter. He is also survived by his devoted sister, Sheryl Falk and her husband, Richard Retz, Houston, and his loving brother, Nathan Falk and his wife, Amanda Yzaguirre and nephew, Jackson Pearce, Houston. He is also survived by a host of beloved cousins, aunts, and uncles and a large circle of faithful friends, whose outpouring of love and support has been extraordinary.
From an early age, Ben loved his Country inspired by his grandfather, Walter Falk, Jr., who served as the Mayor of Rockport. Ben was active in the Boy Scouts and graduated from Rockport-Fulton High School. At 17 years old, Ben volunteered to serve our Country by joining the Army where he was proud to earn his wings as a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter pilot. He was honorably discharged as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW2). While serving, Ben studied Electrical Engineering Technologies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and obtained a B.S. in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He achieved his dream of becoming a lawyer, graduating from Texas Tech Law School where he won national recognition for his advocacy skills. He was a well-respected lawyer at Anderson Roberts PLLC and an owner of Championship Title.
Ben was incredibly intelligent, loquacious, and kind. His love for others really shined in the world around him, and his generous nature caused him to have many loyal friends. All agree, Ben was larger than life, with a heart to match. He inherited the fun gene from his dad, Terry and was the life of every party. He delighted his family and friends with his zest for life, his razor-sharp wit, and his entertaining stories. Ben always had adventures to share, including his climb of Kilimanjaro, trek through the Himalayas to Everest Base camp, and dance with Massai warriors in Africa.
Ben's life was tragically too short. His deepest sorrow would have been leaving his young children, which were his proudest achievement in life. He would want them to know how much joy they brought him and that wherever he is, he will watch over them and help in any way possible.
Ben was one of a kind. He was much loved, and he left a deep mark on the world in his short time. He will live on through his beautiful children, through his stories, and in the hearts of all who knew him.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. to honor him at Key Allegro Yacht Club, 1796 Bayshore Drive, Rockport, Texas. As Ben loved celebrations, there will be another celebration held in Austin in August, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Benjamin A. Falk Memorial Trust for the benefit of his young family at https://gofund.me/bd89debd
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cookwaldenfuneralhome.com for the Falk family.

Legendary Texas artist, Walter S. Falk III died unexpectedly on Tues., July 10, while painting in his home studio in Rockport. The son of the late Anne and Lt. Col. Walter S. Falk, Jr., he is survived by wife Rhonda Stout Falk, Rockport; daughter Sheryl Falk, Houston; sons Nathan and Benjamin Falk, Rockport, sister Patricia Falk, Bridgeport, CT; and devoted friends and collectors around the world.
Born Sept. 20, 1945, in Philadelphia, Walter graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. He attended graduate school in philosophy, but when his advisor lost his Ph.D. dissertation, Falk crossed Guadalupe St. and began painting and selling watercolors on the sidewalk. Falk pushed to establish a dedicated marketplace for artists and craftspeople, which led to the creation of the People's Renaissance Market.
Falk was an exquisite artist with a distinctive artistic style-lyrical, whimsical and captivating. He combined dreamlike color in watercolor, acrylic, or oil backgrounds, with human figures inked with unerring gesture and movement, with brief, poetic titles. He had gallery shows, but he felt art belonged to the people, not to the upper crust alone. So he sold his paintings on the street and in festivals, which made him a keen human observer, contributing to his artistic reach even as it challenged him materially. Walter loved beauty, and made many sacrifices for his art. He sold nearly 40,000 original works in his life time, an achievement friends believe is unequalled, and he sold them on every continent on the globe.
Falk traveled extensively throughout Mexico, Canada, Europe, and South America. He had great adventures, climbing pyramids, mountains, and waterfalls, swimming with alligators and fighting bandidos. He shared his adventurous spirit in his paintings and through his captivating stories. He was a larger than life character who has been compared to Hemingway and Steinbeck. He relished life, and stayed true to himself throughout his.
A funeral service will be held this Sunday, 2:30 pm, at the First United Methodist Church, Rockport. A celebration of his life will be held soon in Austin. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made toward any charity supporting the arts or the environment or the American Heart Society.

Will Be greatly Missed in the Church and by Neighbors and Friends.
Like a bolt of lightning from a clear sky came the news of the sudden death of Mrs. John C. Corkins at her home on West Main Street Sunday afternoon [February 5, 1911], and the entire community was saddened at the thought of the death of one of the most beautiful and highly repected residents of the village.
On Sunday morning Mrs. Corkins entered the sacred realm of motherhood and she and her tiny babe passed away shortly after noon. Everything that human hands and hearts could do was done to save the lives, two physicians being in attendance. The biographical information below was copied from her FindAGrave Memorial page, created by Judy Rogers and maintained by Elizabeth Duncan.
Addie was born in Louisiana in 1851 but had moved to Texas with her family by 1854-1856.
In 1873 she married John Philip Walker, son of Philip and Sarah Elizabeth Walker. They were married in Guadalupe County, but soon moved to Luling (1874) so that John P could join his brother James K. Walker in establishing the Walker Brothers mercantile enterprise. Addie and John Philip had two sons before she died at age 28.
From Luling Signal, Jan 1, 1880, Vol II #51: "We regret the death of Mrs. J.P. Walker, which occurred at her home in this city last Tuesday evening." This would put her death date as Dec. 1879.
After Addie's death, John Philip and the two boys lived with the Fenner family in Luling, Texas. In 1881, John Philip Walker married Josephine C. Fenner, Addie's sister. John Philip and Josephine C. Walker had four children. They named one of their daughters after Addie. John Philip and Josephine C. are buried in Luling City Cemetery.
Addie is buried near her uncle, Patrick Henry Walker, in Prairie Lea Public Cemetery. In the 1968 inventory of the cemetery there were four unmarked graves (listed as board markers) on one side of Addie and one unmarked grave on her other side. The markers are no longer visible.

Wynema McGrew writes that in the "Business Directory, Luling [Texas], 19882-1883" Giles was listed as a saloon owner. She also noted that he ran for Sherriff in the 1880's, but received only 206 votes, the top candidate getting 1,182.
Per the book THE SOUTHERN McGREWS GREW John had been previously married, and had 3 sons, Jasper Newton (b. 1832 MISS), Reuben Franton (b. 1836, LA), and John (b. 1838 in LA).
Wynema McGrew noted that "Fenner Road, beginning at Ouachita River, was blazed by John (a wealthy planter) in the early 1840s prior to his marriage to Alzeda. After loosing several family members to Yellow Fever, he used slaves to cut the road near Okaloosa, where he built a summer house." (McGrew, THE JAMES McGREW FAMILY, p. 335).
His FindAGrave memorial page states that he was a "Son of William Fenner and Mercy Ogden. Husband of Katherine Elliot and Alzedda McGrew. Father of James, William, Isreal, Benjamin, Sherrod, Mercy, Eliza, John Franklin, Jasper, Sarah, Giles, Alzetta, John, Christopher, Josephine, Elizabeth, and Letty. The 1900 Federal Census for St. Joseph County, Michigan reflects that Maria Fenske was the mother of six children, two of whom were living in 1900. As Savery Fenske was the only other Fenske in St. Joseph that was born in Germany, it appears that he most likely was one of the two surviving children of Maria, the other being her son John Fenske, with whom she lived. At the time of the 1930 census, he was living in District 4, Kent County, Delaware.
