She is survived her daughter, Suzanne Conn Brown, husband, Rick and children, Hank, Audrey and Phoebe of New Braunfels, Tx; son, Tim Conn, wife, Angela and children, Jacob and Joshua of Nacogdoches, Tx; and brother, Rush Dickerson of Lumberton, Tx. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Elray Conn of Wildwood and her parents, Rush "Doc" and Edith Pauline "Polly" McCrary Dickerson Smith. Visitation will be on Saturday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Farmer Funeral home in Silsbee. Funeral service will be on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the Wildwood Methodist Church with burial to follow at 3:30 pm at the Burkeville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Methodist Children's Home, 111 Herring Ave., Waco, Tx 76708. |

Mary Lou was born June 8, 1941, in San Augustine County to Joe and Lena Dickerson. She attended San Augustine High School and Nacogdoches Business School where she earned a diploma in Executive Secretarial Course. She married Charles Alford on May 9, 1964. They had three children: Keith, Janie and Carol. Mary Lou worked a variety of jobs; managing the local Sears store, serving as the Tax Assessor Collector for San Augustine County, and working at various area sale barns as the office manager. She worked many local team ropings as the timer and bookkeeper. She was a supporter of the local 4-H, and made many trips to Houston for the trail ride and relay race teams. She loved being outside mowing her yard, or cutting and baling hay. Charles always had a small herd of heifers close to the house so she could see her "babies" daily. She had a way of calling them that no one can duplicate, but they would come to the lot every time. The Alford family attended services at the San Augustine Cowboy Church. Later in life, Mary Lou and Charles built two poultry farms on family land. She learned the poultry business working with Lilo Lopez who has been with the family for 15 years. The team of Mary Lou and Lilo won Grower of the Year for Pilgrim's Pride for their hard work and dedication. The family would like to recognize a few people who helped Mary Lou. In 1974, Donald "Dunk" Mills began working with Charles. Dunk was always just a phone call away to get cows back in, bale hay, or haul cows/hay to somewhere. Mary Lou knew she could count on him to do anything she asked. Also, Grace Palicous came to help the family almost 10 years ago. She took care of the house while Mary Lou was outside mowing or cutting and baling hay. Mary Lou loved visiting and talking with people. She could talk to anyone about anything. She enjoyed her daily phone calls to Mary Ann Griffin and the "twins" from down south. Kay and Fay Dickerson brought many smiles and giggles to her. The Sunday visits from Ms. Jane and Molly Sublett were the highlights of her week. She was especially proud of her two granddaughters, Barbara Pressley and Kayla Cowdin, for continuing their education in the nursing field. Survivors: wife, Martha Dickerson of Milam; sons, Michael Dickerson, Mark Dickerson and his wife, Vickie, and Mervin Dickerson, all of Milam; brothers, Jerry Wayne Dickerson and his wife Janelle of Lufkin, and Vivian Dickerson and his wife Eudelene of Center; sister, Wanda Wall and her husband Royce of Norwood; three grandchildren, Scotty, Cory, and Krista; and three great-grandchildren. Dillman orchestrated the Sunset Beach Band, which played throughout the Thumb in the early years of his marriage. He was later employed at Anrod Screen Cylinder for several years. As a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church (Salem United Methodist Church), he continued to use his musical talent, playing piano, starting the church orchestra and singing in the choir. He also spearheaded the renovation of the church. Dillman was an avid sports enthusiast. During the 1950s, he umpired high school baseball and city softball games. He was also an active bowler and golfer while living in Cass City. He moved to Palm Tree Acres in Zephyrhills in 1974. At the time of his death, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Zephyrhills. Dillman is survived by his wife, Eleanor; a son, Richard Dillman of Saginaw; a daughter Marjorie STEIN of Hudson, Fla.; a brother, Roy BURTON of Bradenton, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Julie, Joseph and Jennifer STEIN, and Jonathan and Janeen DILLMAN. Marten Boremann officiated at the 2 p.m. rites and at the prayer service at 1:30 pm. Svoboda Funeral Home. Burial was in Schuyler Cemetery. Pall-bearers were Richard Divis, Gail Chesley, Paul Kroeger, Elden Dracl, James Otradosky, and Bill Novak. Mr. Divis died July 18 at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo. According to members of his family his death resulted in injuries he received when he was attacked abgout 10:30 pm July 13 near his home. Police arrested 3 adults and 3 teenagers. All were booked for investigation. Mr. Divis was born Feb. 4, 1938 at the family home northwest of Schuyler. He attended Schuyler School and served three years in the Army. Mr. Divis and Beatrice Susan Mitchell were married April 1, 1961 in Pueblo. He was employed as a mechanic. Survivors are his widow and 5 month old daughter Delores Ann, his parents, two brothers Melvin of Fremont and Arnold of Schuyler, sister Rose Ann. A sister preceded him in death. Dlouhy was born to Joseph and Evelyn (Uldrich) Dlouhy on September 19, 1941 in Tobias, Nebraska, and passed away on June 6, 2022 at Jefferson Community Hospital in Fairbury, Nebraska surrounded by his wife, Kathryn, of 59 years, his daughter and his two grandsons. He was 80 years of age. When Duane was a year old, he lost mother and was raised by his grandparents and aunts and uncles until his father was able to take care of him and raise him with the help of friends. He graduated from Tobias High School in 1959 and was most proud of being on the State Basketball Championship team. After graduating he enrolled in airline school in Chicago with a high school classmate. Duane worked numerous jobs in his working life...to name a few, Omar Man, Tiney's Electric Company and Postmaster. In 1963, he married a small-town girl from Western, Kathryn Schmidt, and lived in Lincoln where their only daughter, Kim, was born. His love for sports was his entertainment, he was an avid Husker fan and went to many games, one of the most memorable following them to Hawaii with a group of close friends. His favorite sport to play was softball which he played in Lincoln and continued playing when he moved to Daykin where he became the Postmaster. Of course, there was always a cooler of adult beverages taken along on these softball games for "relaxation" purposes following the win or loss. The fun they had road tripping home from softball games usually had stops in corn fields to grab some ears of corn for a supper/snack when he got home. His team's softball parties were always a highlight and enjoyable for Duane and Kathryn. After retiring from his Postmaster job in Daykin in 1998 Duane and Kathryn moved to Branson, Missouri to be closer to their daughter and two grandsons and were a major part in raising them because of this their grandsons chose to change their last name to Dlouhy, Duane was so proud. While living in Branson, Duane work at Osmond Family Theater as a part-time job, as an usher but refused to carry a candle at the end of the show to sing "Silent Night". He also worked for Silver Dollar City as a brochure distributor and enjoyed driving his van to all the theaters and restaurants. After years down in Branson, Missouri Duane and Kathryn decided to move back to Nebraska and reside in Western after their grandsons decided to come to Nebraska for college and small-town life. With his grandsons going off to college, he and Kathryn became "empty nesters" and started spending their winters down at South Padre Island in Texas where they enjoyed friends and the warm weather. Duane lived his life to the fullest!! He leaves behind his wife, Kathryn; daughter, Kim and husband, Tim Tuley; grandson, Josh Dlouhy; grandson, Hayden and wife, Laine Dlouhy and a great-grandson on the way. Compiled by Patricia Bartley Hensley and Joseph Woodrow Hensley in 1986. This book was found in the Tyler, Texas library in June 1998, and transcribed by Jeff L. Bott, and copied from his BAKER SURNAME-Descendants of Silas Baker on RootsWeb WorldConnect. On November 30, 1919, 1 was born in Groveton, delivered by our beloved family physician, Dr. Jap Magee, to my expectant and devoted parents, Reed H. and Maude Inez Baker Dominy. Mrs. Lynn P. Atmar (Mabel) named me; she became my dearly loved "Auntie Mabel". She, her husband, and son, Morris, were friends of our family. Her husband, Lynn, was the banker in Groveton then. Dr. Magee's wife and mother were also kind and good friends. My childhood was filled with fun and love, so many wonderful memories under the guidance and protection of Christian parents. Many cousins were counted among my close friends and associates and still remain so today. I remember the gatherings in the home of our grandparents, Daniel and Kittie Dominy, the love of aunts and uncles and their families. At Thanksgiving and Christmas our grandparents expected all to be there, but these reunions continued after our grandparents were gone. I miss them now. Our mother was full of love for all and had the wonderful ability to take over in homes where there was illness or sadness. She was also a good cook and friend to all. My dear brother, Reed Harwood, 3/ years older than I, was a freckle-faced, good-looking lad with auburn curls, a winning smile, and lovable personality. I was chubby with curly blond hair, which my mother kept in Shirley Temple style. I remember how beautifully she dressed me in the clothes she made, for she was a good seamstress. My brother was also dressed beautifully. Growing up was full of happy living among such loving, kind, and good friends among our peers as well as adults. Attending Sunday School, Church, and Groveton public schools contributed to a full and well-rounded education. We had excellent teachers, such as Miss Norma Dawson and Mrs. Jimmie (G. H.) Bradley, who was the best math teacher I ever had. Reading through the recipes in my mother's cookbook, compiled by members of the Church Circle, awakens more memories of all the dear people who contributed so much to our lives, to each other, and to other Trinity County residents. Among these was Mrs. Joe Locke. She and her husband, Joe, owned the Locke Hotel; and their son, Joe Tom, a dear friend of ours, drowned in the Trinity River. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Robb were also family friends to whom my brother and I delivered milk from our Holstein Dairy. When school closed, we had great fun gathering with friends at our house for tennis, followed by enjoying tall glasses of butter-milk, fried pork (sow-belly), and cornbread (Soul Food), followed by old-fashioned tea cakes. Then the friends left to do their home chores, while Reed and I turned to our town duties. During football season it fell my lot to do double-duty, while my brother either stayed at school to practice or play football. In 1934 we moved to Nacogdoches where I finished high school, preparatory to college, and Reed Harwood entered Stephen F. Austin College. We later moved to Center where my father continued his profession in the Dry-Goods business, later serving as a member of the State's Department Program for developing agriculture in Texas, which he enjoyed very much. After college my brother taught school in Longview until World War II, when he joined the US Air Force and was stationed in California until sent overseas to London. He was piloting a P-35 when shot down over the English Channel. The body was never recovered. When my mother died in 1966 (correction: 1950), the minister referred to her as another casualty or victim of war. My father died in 1973. Reed Harwood left a widow, Melba, and a daughter Mary Margaret, now Mrs. John Hendrick (correction: Hendricks), of Auburn, Alabama John and Mary Margaret have a son, John, in the University of Alabama, and a daughter, Lisa, who is finishing high school. I met and married Carl Fussell, a rancher and member of a prominent family in San Augustine. Carl died in 1970. McLemore, of Nashville. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Donelson and Mary Purnell. Mary Purnell was the sister-in-law of Andrew Jackson. Elizabeth married John Christmas McLemore in 1815. He was a well known surveyor in the southeast succeeding his uncle as Surveyor General of the Tennessee Military Tract. McLemore and Elizabeth's uncle, Andrew Jackson, worked together in land development deals resulting in towns like McLemoresville. Tombstone inscription Inscription: Elizabeth Wife of John C. McLemore Born November 22nd 1796 Died July 2nd 1836 This stone is sacred memory of her who lives beneath this sod? A dedicated wife and affectionate wife ? Christian She filled the office of Daughter won the affection of all who approached her. She died beloved. |
