"WM SPEIGHTS, (son of Wm and Sarah Speights) was born June 25, 1745, probably in N.C. The family Bible also listed Mary b Nov 2, 1736; John b. Sept 30, 1739; Ruth, b Mar 25, 1742; Joseph, b Nov 20, 1748; and Leah, b June 19, 1751. In this same Bible was the name only of Mary Minchew. This younger Wm Speights is believed to have m Ann Phelps in 1772 (Chowan Co N.C. Records). He fought in the American Revolution and rec'd Bounty land in Hancock Co, Georgia and according to family legend, John and Levi Speights were brothers. They also rec'd bounty grants in the same county. Levi's family did not come to Texas so far as is known."
"William and a brother, probably Asa, signed on a note for yet another brother, when he could not pay the note, William and Asa were unwilling to pay the note so to protect their assets, they left the state in the middle of the night, crossing the Mississippi River family and slaves.
William was suffering from yellow fever, and died in the river crossing and was buried on the banks of the river. His new widow, Rebecca Hopkins Speights continued the journey to Texas and settled in Sabine County in 1843...
The book "1850 Census Sabine County, Texas with added family information and corrections," includes a list of slave owners in Sabine County. William Myrick Speights was shown as owning 15 slaves.

Laura Buckmaster shows her as a daughter of Dave SPEIR and Minnie Ola PICKETT. Barbara Yancey Dore spells this as SPIER, with Kay Parker McCary, on her annotated transcription of the Gravel Hill Cemetery, showing Donley Boyett was married to Ethel SPEARS, but later shows Ethel M. Speir Boyett (10-9-1964) as a spouse of Elisha O. Boyett.
Bonnie Seiler shows her as the daughter of Arthur SPELL and Elsie FAIRCLOTH. She is linked to these parents on FindAGrave as well.
At the time of the 1900 census, 75 year old Nancy Spell was living with the family. Assumed to be the mother of Nancy Elizabeth. Her date of birth was listed as Mar 1824, her marital status single, and her relationship, inexplicably, as "Nephew."
In 1910, Nancy Elizabeth appears to be listed twice, as follows:
North Carolina, Cumberland County, Fayetteville, ED 49 16 April 1910

In 1920, she is living with Oscar B., in the Little Coharie Township of Sampson County, and nearby Alvin and Dennis.
In 1930, she is living with her son Dennis in Little Coharie Township, and is listed as Elizabeth, age 69.
Her tombstone, in the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Sampson County, NC, shows her as "Nancy E. wife of L. H. McLemore 10 Mar 1860-6 Aug 1930, A tender mother and a faithful friend."
Her sister Sarah, was married to Thomas CLIFTON, the Clifton's and McLemore's being neighbors.
When Elizabeth's father, William SPENCE died in early 1758, his will left all of his land to another daughter, Mary, and left his son-in-law John five shillings, apparently for Elizabeth. Other bequests were made to SPENCE's son John and to (daughter?) Lucy POWELL, with Simon TURNER Sr. named as executor. (Southampton Will Book 1, p. 240). John McLemore sued his father-in-law's estate, receiving a conditional judgement on October 12, 1758 (Southampton Order Book 2, p. 460), which matured at the next term of court into a full judgement on November 9, 1758 (Order Book 2, p. 469). A jury was ordered impaneled to hear the issue of damages only, and they did so on January 12, 1759, finding for him in the amount of 12 pounds, 5 shillings, 9 pence, 3 farthings (Order Book 2, p. 483). (James L. McLemore, III, p. 60).
Note that William Spence's executor, Simon Turner, own will dated July 7, 1761, was witnessed by Thomas Clifton (husband of Sarah McLEMORE), John McLEMORE, Jr., Elizabeth McLEMORE (John's wife), and Mary SPENCE.
The rich and happy life of Beatrice Mae Condit of Arco, Idaho, came to an end on Saturday, July 16, 2016, after 87 years.
She was born in Belding, Mich., the middle child of Eva Mae Corbett and Sigmund William Spencer. She married the love of her life, Clayton Max Condit, in 1951. After living in England for his tour of duty with the Air Force, they returned to Idaho and had two daughters, Celeste and Deirdre.
Inspired by her work at Fort Hall Reservation, Beatrice then completed her bachelor's degree in anthropology at Idaho State University. She enjoyed teaching linguistics until she and Clay moved to Arco to manage the airport around 1980. After they moved into town, she helped many students and young people with school and life. They shared their love and home with Janice Carlson, Jerry Burgoyne, Ryan Becker, Ben Jensen and his brother, Josh.
Bea enjoyed politics, bridge, crossword puzzles and talking with people. She adored her granddaughters, Corbette and Moira, and loved and admired her sister, Margaret, and her younger brother, Bill.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Anderson Funeral Home in Arco. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Arco "Pretty City" Committee.
Diana, Princess of Wales (Diana Frances n?e Spencer; 1 July 1961 ? 31 August 1997) was a member of the British royal family and an international personality of the late 20th century as the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, whom she married on 29 July 1981. The wedding, which was held at St. Paul's Cathedral, was televised and watched by a global audience of over 750 million people. The marriage produced two sons: Princes William and Harry, currently second and third in line to the thrones of the 16 Commonwealth realms, respectively.
A public figure from the announcement of her engagement to Prince Charles, Diana was born into an old, aristocratic English family with royal ancestry, and remained the focus of worldwide media scrutiny before, during and after her marriage, which ended in divorce on 28 August 1996. This media attention continued following her death in a car crash in Paris on 31 August 1997, and in the subsequent display of public mourning a week later. Diana also received recognition for her charity work and for her support of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines. From 1989, she was the president of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
Randi McKie, Dorothea's granddaugher, writes that "Mom Mom first married a man by the last name of Leggett and had a son named Dewey Elton LEGGETT. The marriage was short lived and they divorced. She was working as a waitress in a restaurant where she met her second husband, William John "Bill" ALBERT of Brooklyn, New York, and they were the parents of Sondra Elizabeth ALBERT, born 1943, in Philadelphia. Bill was a mechanical engineer. He tried to adopt Dewey, but Dewey's biological father refused to relinquish his parental rights. Dewey was raised by Bill and considered him his father, later taking the Albert name as his own. Dewey and Sondra grew up in Barrington, NJ, and attended Haddon Heights High School.
Randi McKie, Sondra's daughter, added that "In the early 1960's my Mom met my father, Arthur Murray Holmstock in Atlantic City, NJ. They were both working down there that summer. My Mom had a job dancing (not anything explicit, she was a trained ballerina) and my father attended a parking lot. She and a friend made plans to double date with my father and his friend. My Dad was to go out with her friend and she was to go out with his. Mom's friend got sick and my Dad's friend couldn't make it, so that is how my parents got together. Mom gave birth in April 1966 to my brother, Joel Micah Holmstock. And to me in September 1967. Joel still has not married. I married in 2003 and have a 22 year old step daughter."
Edward John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer, MVO (24 January 1924 ? 29 March 1992) was the son of Albert Edward John Spencer, 7th Earl Spencer and Lady Cynthia Elinor Beatrix Hamilton, and the father of Diana, Princess of Wales. Lord Spencer held the offices of County Councillor for Northamptonshire (1952), High Sheriff of Northamptonshire (1959) and Justice of the Peace for Norfolk (1970).[1] He served as Equerry to King George VI (1950? 52) and to Queen Elizabeth II (1952? 54),[2] and was invested as a Member of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1954.[1]
On 1 June 1954, Lord Althorp and the Hon. Frances Ruth Roche, the younger daughter of the 4th Baron Fermoy, were married in Westminster Abbey by Percy Herbert, Bishop of Norwich. They had five children:
Lady Sarah McCorquodale (b.1955)
Jane Fellowes, Baroness Fellowes (b.1957)
John Spencer (1960)
Diana, Princess of Wales (1961? 1997)
Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer (b.1964)
Lord and Lady Althorp were unexpectedly divorced in April 1969. Lord Spencer later won a bitter custody battle for Diana. On 14 July 1976, Lord Spencer married Raine, Countess of Dartmouth, the former wife of the 9th Earl of Dartmouth, and the only daughter of the romantic novelist Barbara Cartland and Alexander McCorquodale.

Valerie Atkinson writes that she married Henry Dennis and was living with her husband and brother Homer Spencer at the time of the 1900 federal census. She appeared to have changed her first name to Rena.
Valerie Atkinson shows him as the son of Joseph SPENCER and Almanza HOPKINS. She notes that the family bible instead shows his date of birth as May 31, 1861, contradicting the 1880 census, with a May 1863 birthdate. That same census shows his with the middle initial E.
She indicates that in 1870 and 1880, he was listed on the census in Gilford, Tuscola County, Michigan. In 1900, he was in Clayton, Arenac County, and in 1910 in Moffat, Arenac County.

A captain in the Confederate Army. He was a principal of the Spencer Academy east of Greensburg. He was killed at the Siege of Vicksburg and is buried in the National Cemetery there. (Note: Probably was actually buried in the Confederate Cemetery in Vicksburg. This is near the National Cemetery)
Joseph Spencer was found dead in his barn one day last week. It is supposed that heart disease was the cause. he was an old soldier having served three years in the Mexican War. he was past 90 years of age. The G.A. R. of Reese and Gilford turned out to administer the last rites to their deceased brother at the U.B. Church in Gilford, the Sixteenth and interred in the Gilford Cemetery. He was a native of Canada, but had been a resident of Gilford for a good many years. He leaves a wife and four children.

Pioneer of Tuscola Found Dead at Gilford
Brother Died in the Same Way Four Years Ago, and Strange to Say the Same Barn
Joseph Spencer, age 76 years, one of the oldest pioneers of Tuscola County, a Veteran of the Mexican and late Civil War, was found dead in his barn, rear of resident, near Gilford last night at 8:00 by a neighbor named Gilbert Quipp. A coroner's inquest was held and a verdict of death from heart disease was rendered. A wife and four children survive him. His brother Manuel was found dead in the same barn four years from the same disease. Another brother, Moses, was shot at Bay City in the 60's by a rough character, dying afterwards from the effects of his wounds.

Said to be the daughter of James Spencer, she was christened at St. Nicholas Church in Liverpool. The christening records of daughter Mary list her as Margaret SPENCE.
The Striffler-Benkelman Broadcast, Volume 11, published September 6, 1948, reported that Margaret Spencer, of Bellville, was on the staff of the Jackson Co. Library at Indepence, Mo. The 1964 issue of the same periodical reported that she had been teaching for the past two years in the University of Honolulu while working on her Doctors Degree in Education.
Art Peck wrote that Dr. Spencer was an instructor at the University of Hawaii, in the department of Far Eastern Language.
Valerie Atkinson instead shows that he died in Deland, Florida. He and Eva were buried in the Poincianna Cemetery in Paisley, Florida. Katherine Spencer Griffis confirmed this location. She visited him the day he died.
Randi McKie emailed that "Thelma married Otis Taylor, a master plumber from VA. I believe all the children (she and her siblings) grew up in Hopewell, VA. Thelma and Otis settled in Madison Heights, VA (outside of Lynchburg) and had two children, Shirley and Gary. Shirley first married a man named Woody (last name) who came from a prominent family in Madison Heights. They had two children, Lynn and Gwen. Shirley divorced and married Buddy (Marshall) Coleman who worked for the Lynchburg Sheriffs Department. They had one daughter, Tina Coleman. Uncle Otis died in March of 2000 from a heart attack. He was buried in Madison Heights, VA. with full military honors.
Gary Taylor married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie. They had two children, Chad and Kelsi. They still live in Madison Heights today. Gary became a master plumber like his father and Chad was following this also. Kelsi became a physical therapist.
Thelma died around the 2005 possibly cancer. Shirley passed around 2007 from throat cancer due to years of smoking. I am not sure how many grandchildren that Shirley has: Lynn had at least two girls, Gwen had at least two and Tina has at least one."

Her father was Edmund St. John, born in Ireland. Per a letter to Esther McGrew Hardin from Jeannie Ross (a great granddaughter of Julia Hart McGrew), Edmund St. John was on a boat that Colonel Power brought over. It was believed to have been shipwrecked off the coast of Texas, and many passengers fell to Cholera. (She cited H.Huson "Refugio") Jeannie also received information from the Texas State Archives that Ed. and William St. John were in the Texas Revolution, and were granted bounty lands.
On "January something" in 1983, Bonnie Jacobs wrote "A search for some years has finally yielded information for me. As you have probably heard, the last of the 10 Benkelman children to emigrate from Germany were the four girls and their mother [Dorothea, age 52, and daughters Dorothea age 23, Catharina, age 21, Maria, age 13, and Lena, age 7]. We had heard from family legends that the mother died at sea and I have pursued that information for years. I have finally retrieved it. It is a painstaking process to get the facts, but I finally found an obituary that identified the port of entry as Baltimore---a stroke of luck since Baltimore was one of the few American ports of entry that did have a Customs passenger list. I have retrieved the film from the Archives in Washington--but it has brought a new mystery. It is remarkable that finding the answer to one question almost always raises another. Missing from the party of four daughters and the mother is the second eldest daughter, Catharina. She was released from the Empire with the others on 20 September of 1853--but there is no record of her having arrived in Baltimore!
At least I have a death date on the mother now. She died at sea on 22 October, barely a month into the voyage. The ship arrived in Baltimore on December 15. Can you imagine being packed into one of those filthy sailing vessels for six to nine weeks? Try to imagine the day to day living with no privacy, no way to bathe or attend to personal needs and only buggy, dried food to eat! Our ancestors suffered much. I will go and try to retrieve the Captain's actual report now that I know the ship and the Captain--to see if a cause of death is listed. Cholera was rampant that year, but I think it was not the cause since the part of the list I have seen shows only one other death during the voyage."
BonnieMargaret Jacobs shows her, on her transcription of the familienregister page of the Benkelmann family, as a daughter of George Friedrich St?hle and Anna Maria REIK or RECH. However, Anna Maria REIK is actually the mother of Dorothea's daughter-in-law Catharina Schaufele, who married Dorothea's son Adam Benkelmann. Kathy Bonnell, on her transcription of G?ppingen church records, shows her mothers maiden name was LEINS. BonnieMargaret appears to have been simply confusing the two Anna Maria's. Additionally, the family register for the family of Georg Friedrich St?hle, listing his wife and children, shows his wife Anna Maria was born to Georg Friedrich Leins, a farmer.
On the Oberant Welzheim Emmigrants list, 1818-1891, She is listed as Maria Dorothea, Witwe (widow) des Bauers Johann Leonhard Benkelmann von Schneiderhof, Gd. Waldhausen geb. den 5ten Januar 1800. Their guarantor was Johann Georg St?hle, Bauer von B?rtlingen.
(BonnieMargaret's full source citation was: Staatsarchiv Ludwigsburg, "Verzeichnis der Auswanderung aus dem Oberamt Welzheim 1818-1891" F 214 B?schel 91 Fortlaufende Number 42 [or possibly 47] ).
BonnieMargaret Jacobs quotes parish records as showing her as the widow of Friedrich Stohrer, a carpenter in Breech.
The following article, about the death of Christina Benkelman, was in the August 19, 1897 "Home Happenings" column of the Cass City Enterprise:
"Mr. and Mrs. Fred Benkelman live about four miles northeast of this place. Mr. Benkelman has been in poor health for some time. Yesterday afternoon, as Jacob Joos was returning from town, he called to leave their mail and not seeing Mrs. Benkelman inquired for her. He was told that she had been out for some time and upon a search being made she was found lying on the ground at the rear of the house. It was thought at first that she was only in an unconscious condition but investigation proved that life was already extinct. She was 74 years of age, and with her husband was among the earliest settlers here. The children are all married and away from home. "
Her husban Fred died just 10 days later.

ROLESVILLE-Mrs. Virginia Stainback McLemore, 91, of Perry Street, died Saturday, September 9, 2023 at her home. Born July 1, 1932 in Vance County she was the daughter of the late Pearl Moseley Stainback and Atley Stainback and was the widow of Amos Leslie McLemore, Jr.
Paul McLemore hows her as Nancy "Nannie" Elizabeth Stallings, born in Wills Point, Texas.
Might this be her death certificate, as the name, age and location are correct...however her maiden name and current marital status seem to differ. Other records at Family Search.org seems to indicate that this Nannie McLemore was married to Lonzo or Richard E. McLemore, and the mother of Richard Elman McLemore and Henry Brandon McLemore, so the listing below is unlikely to be that of the wife of Henry Willis McLemore.

The Texas Birth Index shows that a Clara STAMPER and William Henry HAMILTON were the parents of two children, Jesse William HAMILTON (b. 1 Mar 1926, Kaufman County, TX) and Hoyt Horace HAMILTON (b. 3 Oct 1932, Kaufman County, TX). It is not known with certainty that this is the same Clara STAMPER. It is very possible, as she was no longer living with her father at the time of the 1930 census. However, this particular family could not be located in 1930 either.

From Krol Stamper Chapas to Lynell Gentry Cordell, 2002--
"Campbell William Stamper had two wives. With the first one he had 6 children (including W.C.'s father Hiram) and with the second one he had 16 children. The halves all knew each other, even to the 2nd generation. W.C. Sr. was named for one of his father's (Hiram's) halves, William Campbell.
His story was that he and his brother were living together and neither one could cook, so they decided that one of them had to get married. They drew straws and Pa was the one who had to do it. Then he met Granny (a natural blonde) and never got over it. Fortunately she agreed to marry him, and life was good after that."
Marriage records indicated that Clint and Marie Audrey were married in Arkansas in 1907. They must have moved to Texas shortly thereafter, as their oldest daughter, Mary Mabel "Jackie" Stamper was born in 1908 in Montague. By 1913, they had moved to Wheeler county, where son Orville Bush Stamper was born. Shortly thereafter, they must have moved again, this time to the Vineyard Community of Jack County, Texas. As can be seen on the transcription of a Historical Marker found by one of the old wells, shown below, Hiram and his sons petioned for the 1915 name change of Vinyard to Wizard Wells, Texas. Youngest son William Clinton Stamper, Jr was born in Wizard Wells in March, 1916.
Wizard Wells - Texas Historical Marker
The Kiowa Indians first visited this location and used the mineral waters for medicinal purposes. George Washington Vineyard settled here in the 1870s taking up a claim originally established by David Rowland. ... In 1898 the Rock Island Railroad bypassed Vineyard and Sebree Community was started (2 mi. S). Visitors arriving by train took a hack to the resort. H.F. Stamper and his sons, Clint and H.F., Jr. petitioned the legislature in 1915 and the name of Vineyard became Wizard Well. Sebree was changed to Vineyard.

In her note to Lynell, Krol continued "I guess my Uncle Jeff (g-uncle) lived near them for quite awhile, married a lady named Alice (have her maiden name in my notes) and all lived near each other (along with Uncle Dick and Aunt's Jessie and Clara) until Pa and Granny decided to go back to school and become college professors. That was when they moved to Lawton.
They (W.C. and Marie), were either getting ready to teach at Cameron or were already teaching there (in 1933 when Mary Bush died), so they probably planned to stay. However, Pa (W.C.) took a job with the Agricultural Dept. and they lived in Paul's Valley and lived there for many, many years before he retired again and they moved to Ardmore." --
