His descendant, Sherilyne "Sam" Palmer wrote, in April 2013, that Samuel Henry was a blacksmith, like his father, Obediah Smith (wife Matilda UNKNOWN). Obediah and Matilda were in Logan Co, KY in 1840 Census and in 1880 Census. Samuel Henry Smith and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, moved to Texas by train in 1891, near Dallas. They lived in Dallas Co., and Tarrant Co. In 1896, they lived near Plano; in 1897-1899, a blacksmith in Rhome. Early 1900's a blacksmith shop in Farmer's Branch; 1901 in Denton. Their last child, Tate Lyle Smith, was born in/near Renner (?), TX in 1892. Their daughter, Lue Ella Smith, got sick while moving from Plano to Rhome and they stayed in a hotel in/near Grapevine. She died in the hotel (from T.B.?) in 1899. Samuel H. bought lots for all of them in Grapevine Cem. in 1899. (from his journal entries)
The registery of US Civil War Soldiers on Ancestry.com shows that Samuel H. Smith
was in the Union forces during the war, serving in the 8th Kentucky Cavalry, Company K, rank Blacksmith

Francis Smith -- b. abt. 1838, KY; d. before 1880 Census; m. Dec 18, 1865 to Margaret McLemore Henderson, dau of Joel McLemore and Rachel Stinson; (she was a first cousin to Mary Elizabeth McLemore; Francis was her 2nd marriage); Margaret was widow in 1880 census with 3 children listed, Josephus 8, Margaret 6, and Beauchamp 3. Francis and Margaret were in 1870 Census, Logan Co, KY under Household of John W. Lamb and wife Mary. Lambs were neighbors to Obediah Smith (Frank's father). I believe that if Goodwin McLemore's wife was Mary Lamb -- her relatives were the neighbors to the Smith's and were the ones who took Hiram McLemore as a boarder when his parents, John and Caroline, died. An A. J. Lamb was witness to marriage of Francis Smith and Margaret McLemore Henderson.

By the age of 40, Sophia Smith had become quite deaf, and even the use of an ear trumpet did not counter the growing isolation that her hearing loss engendered in the years to follow. The death of her siblings Harriet (in 1859) and Austin (in 1861) left Sophia Smith wealthy but alone. In the final decade of her life, she was faced with the difficult decision of how to dispose of the considerable Smith family fortune. What led her, during that period, to her determination to devote the largest part of that fortune -- $387,468 -- to establish a women's college in Northampton? "Miss Smith often spoke of her childhood and her youth. She retained vivid and pleasant recollections of them. I think she regarded them as the happiest periods of her life." John M. Greene, "Sophia Smith," Hampshire Gazette and Northampton Courier, 2 March 1914
Because few family records survive, little is known about Sophia's early years. Her journal, which she kept for the last nine years of her life, is primarily a record of her spiritual development but also includes discussions of events of the day, her travels, and the books she was reading.
"The past week has been a trying one on some accounts. My girl domestic has been very disorderly. She seems very wilful, throwing off all restraint, setting her own will in defiance of rule and authority. I have already put up with more from her than is consistent with a proper dignity as mistress of the house. I want wisdom from above to get along with her. "Sophia Smith, Journal entry, 27 June 1864
Sophia became an expert spinner and housewives were anxious to obtain her fine thread in return for other commodities. -- Nor was Sophia an extravagant housekeeper. There is a story that she scolded her maid so severely when she found her about to use an egg in a loaf of ginger bread that the maid lost her temper and threw the egg at her mistress. Marion Billings, unpublished paper on Sophia Smith
While many girls of her era were given a meager formal education, Sophia appears to have had more educational advantages than most and demonstrated a keen thirst for knowledge. Her pastor, John M. Greene, recalls Sophia telling her that as a girl she used to sit on the steps of the schoolhouse in the morning and hear the boys recite their lessons, "with the hope of picking up there some crumbs of knowledge," as girls in Hatfield at that time received their lessons only in the afternoon. She read avidly and widely throughout her life. Such passion -- which included poetry and prose, newspapers and magazines of social, political and literary commentary -- not only portended her future contributions but may also have helped her endure the tragedies of her adulthood.
Besides the schools in Hatfield, Sophia Smith attended a school in Hartford, Conn., for twelve weeks when she was fourteen years old. After this she was a pupil for a time in what was later known as the Hopkins Academy in Hadley
For help with her decision for the disposition of her fortune, Sophia Smith turned to her pastor, John Morton Greene, as well as other advisors. Among the options considered were bequests to Amherst College (Rev. Greene's alma mater) and to the nearby Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, which had been educating young women since 1837. Initially, Sophia settled on a variety of projects, including a school for the deaf -- a logical choice in light of her own struggles with impaired hearing. Smith College may, at least in part, owe its very existence to the fact that John Clarke died before she did, endowing a school for the deaf (today the acclaimed Clarke School in Northampton) and prompting Sophia to abandon her plan.
The "Last Will and Testament of Miss Sophia Smith" was not completed until March of 1870, only three months before she died but nine years (and many revisions) after first meeting about the matter with John Greene. This final version supported "the establishment and maintenance of an Institution for the higher education of young women, with the design to furnish for my own sex means and facilities for the education equal to those which are afforded now in our Colleges to young men."
The will also made three gifts to religious societies and eighteen female relatives, and it provided for the establishment of the Smith Academy in Hatfield for the education of both sexes, requiring, too, that "the number of female teachers shall be equal or one less than that of the male teachers" and that the female teachers must have a voice in the management of the School...."
When Sophia Smith died in June 1870, her obituary appeared in the same issue of the Hampshire Gazette and Northampton Courier that announced the death of Charles Dickens and the first annual meeting of theWomen's Suffrage Committee of Hampshire County.
"Miss Sophia Smith died on Sunday, at the advanced age of 74 years. She was well known in all this section as a lady of great wealth, of benevolent disposition and blameless and irreproachable life. She was the sister of Austin Smith, and received from him and a sister, property to the amount of $200,000. In addition, she had some $30,000 from the estate of her father. A few years since she gave $30,000 to Andover Theological Seminary, and she also gave liberally toward founding a public library in the town of Hatfield. Her private charities were numerous and her memory will be cherished with affection by a large circle who have been recipients of her benefactions."

DIED: ? At his home near Colfax, La., Sept. 25, 1901, WILEY W. SMITH.
He died with Swamp fever, his illness lasting only about 40 hours, when the dark clouds of death hovered over him.
Wiley leaves a wife and five children, father and mother, three brothers and one sister, besides hosts of friends, to mourn his death. The chain that bound family ties so close is now broken. There is a missing link that can not be replaced. Oh, how sad it is to know that we must part with one so near and dear, although we know his spirit has been borne away be the snow white Angel Band to that peaceful home beyond the skies where there is no more pain, temptation and sorrow. Weep not dear friends and family, for it is the workings of an Allwise Providence, the Giver and Receiver of our spirits.
So we'll say farewell, dear husband, father and friend, till we meet again.

According to Avis Smith Benkelman, her father, "William Bert Smith left the Catholic Church when he married. He attended Michigan State University, where he took agricultural courses. He worked as a dairyman in Odessa Township, Michigan. He later owned and operated "Farmer Smith's Dry Goods" in Grand Ledge."
Bert's residence at the time of this death was 501 Taylor in Grand Ledge.
The May 31, 1940 edition of the GRAND LEDGE INDEPENDENT printed the following obituary:
W.B. Smith, One-time Merchant Here, Dies
William Bert Smith passed away at the family home on Taylor Street, Friday morning after a week's illness. He lacked a month of being 72 years of age, having been born in Odessa Township, near Lake Odessa, June 20, 1868. Surviving are the widow, Ida, and two daughters, Mrs. Ben Benkelman of Cass City and Miss Ilo Smith of Lansing. The body was taken to Peters & Otto Funeral Home where services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. A.R. Gold officiating. Interment was made in the Lake Odessa Cemetery. Mr. Smith was well and favorably known in the city, where he had lived for a long time. He conducted a General Store in Grand Ledge for 22 years and was known as "Farmer Smith." After selling that out, he was employed in the highway department of the state for 15 years. He was affiliated with the Odd Fellow and Rebakah organizations and had been active in both for many years.
And in the June 6, 1940 edition of THE LAKE ODESSA WAVE-TIMES a similar item ran:

It appears that although Bert and Ida transferred their home jointly to their daughters, they continued to live in it, at least until Bert's death in 1940. It is assumed that Avis and Ilo eventually sold their parents home, as neither returned to live in Grand Ledge after graduating from college.

According to Geni, Son of Shlomo Savilevics and Etta Devorah Romm
Husband of Anna Savilevics
Father of Mary Smith; Rebecca Smith; Sol Smith; Jack J Smith and Bertha Smith
Brother of Celia Shapiro; Hyman Smith; Simon Smith and Ruchel Minna Levine
One of Rella's children with Yehuda Laib Romm was Etta Devayra Romm, who married Shlomo Zavilevitz (Savilevics) and lived in Kupisik (Kupi?kis '96 "koo-PISH-kis"). Their son Zanvil Zavilevitz (Savilevics) was born in Kupisik and was sent at a young age, probably around 12, to Riga (today, the capital of Latvia) to learn be a capmaker. When Zanvil's apprenticeship ended, he went to live with his grandmother Rella and her second husband in Rakisik. Zanvil's sister, Zlata Zavilevitz (Savilevics), who was also born in Kupisik, also went to live with Rella and Abraham Abramovitz.
Zanvil moved to Baltimore, probably around 1899, and changed his name to Myer Smith. Shortly afterward, he founded the BAYL family society.
In 1910, Myer, his wife Annie, and children Mary, Rebecca, Saul and Bertha were residing on Rogers Ave in Baltimore, wehre Meyer was a grocery store keeper on his own account. Both parents were shown as born in Russia, to Russian parents. They had been married once, for nine years.
When he registered for the draft during World War I, he and his wife Anna were residing at 133 Jackson Place in Baltimore, and he was secretary and treasurer of the Batto Candy & Tobacco Co of Baltimore. He was of medium height and build, with dark brown eyes and partly bald.
In 1920, they still lived on Jackson Streeet, and both were shown as born in Russia, with Yiddish as their native toungue. He was listed as secretary of a candy company. His date of immigration was shown as 1900, and hers as 1889. Both were naturalized citizens.
In 1930, the family was on Brookfield Avenue in Baltimore, and Myer was a Candy Wholesaler.
In 1940, the family was still living on Brookfield Avenue, and 80 year old Rose Rubin, a widow and Myer's mother-in-law was living with them. She was shown as born in Russia. Myer, now widowed, was shown as a salesman. His highest grade completed was Elementary, third grade. All his children still in the home had graduated from High School, with so Sol a college graduate and physician.
He was said to be the founder of the B'nai Abraham and Yehuda Laib Family Society in Baltirmore.
In those days, everybody was a "koptson" but each did what he could to help those still in Europe. Soon, Myer Smith's affinity for leadership began to assert itself. Deeply concerned in the welfare of all his kin, he arranged passage and visas for those who had no means of their own and met the costs with Bank Loans underwritten by himself and a few other interested persons. He was married to Anna RUBIN, and their flat at 117 Front Street, became the Sunday evening rendezvous of the family while he collected five cents a week from as many relatives as could contribute and, in that way, he paid off the loans. His confidante and great friend was Uncle Max Romm, whom he consulted on every matter and whose sound opinion and liberal viewpoint he valued very highly.
By 1904, it was decided that these impromptu, weekly meetings ought to have formal status, and in May of that year, our family held its first called meeting in the home of Yankel and Rocha Nessa Abramson Rubin at 1013? Low Street in Baltimore. From that day on, Baltimore has been the focal point of this Society. There is some variance of opinion as to date, for there are a few who say that the Sunday of Chol-hamoed Pesach, April 1905, was when the Farein was formally organized. Be that as it may, the minutes of January 14, 1934 include the following sentence: "es is dightlich bashtimdt givoren dos unzer Farein is organizert givoren in May 1904." We are told that those who gathered together on that memorable evening were Rocha Nessa and Yankel Rubin, Becky and Max Romm, Celia Smith, Anna and Myer Smith, Albert Schwartzberg, Zacharia Rosen and Rubin Levine. Since no records have been found of those early days, we can only relate what we have learned from those who "remember" and appreciate how satisfying for them was the process of organizing.
