She is entered in a history published by the Genealogy Society of Roosevelt County New Mexico. It was noted that she was a seamstress from Billings, Oklahoma and was looking for a greener pastures when she came to New Mexico. She was said to be the daughter of Samuel F. Russell, born ca 1833, in Coatsville, PA, and d. 8-1917 at age 84. He was married to an Inez on 14 Jan 1851 in Cleveland, Ohio. Other children, James Russell (son by his first wife, Elizabeth Moore), and Charlie Lovington Russell.
Her FindAGrave memorial page, created by R. T. Brandon, had the following obituary posted:
Funeral Services for Mrs. Helen Russell Maxey will be held at 10:00 on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many, LA. Interment will follow at Bayou Scie Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm on Thursday, August 23, 2012. Officiating will be Rev. Nathaniel Langford. Mrs. Maxey was a member of Bayou Scie Methodist Church.
Helen, affectionately called Miss Helen by family and friends, was born on December 22, 1922. She was the only child of Eddie B. and Minnie Della Russell. Since she was an only child and wanted a large family, she had four daughters during her 58 years of marriage to Ural (Billy) Maxey, who preceded her in death on December 28, 2000. Growing up she enjoyed the companionship of her parental aunts and uncles who were her approximate age. After her marriage to Billy, she claimed his seven siblings and their spouses as her own.
Helen will be remembered by her many professions. She worked alongside Billy on their farm in the Belmont Community in Sabine Parish. She was a true partner assisting him with their cattle herd, poultry business and agriculture ventures. She also helped run the family store, Russell-Maxey Country Store and gas station. She served as Librarian of the Belmont Branch Public Library. Her most important profession was that of wife, mother, grandmother and friend to her neighbors. She will especially be remembered for her devotion to her special daughter, Billie Carol.
She is survived by her daughters, Gloria Rains and husband Randel of Zwolle, LA; Nelda Thomas and husband Steve of Shreveport, LA; Diane Rivers and husband Mike of Stonewall, LA and Billie Carol Maxey of Many, LA; six grandchildren, Rusty Rains, Shawn Arthur, Milicent Day, Erin Zeringue, Shane Rivers and Kevin Rivers; and 14 great grandchildren.

Happy 100th Birthday, Mammaw!
One Hundred years ago today, on January 27, 1916, Ina Mae Russell (1916-2001) was born at home in LaMerle, Texas, near the Santa Fe Railroad about halfway between Pineland and Bronson.
Her parents were Creed Thomas Russell (1888-1925) and Lora Lee Warner Russell Forse (1894-1983).
Creed worked at the sawmill in LaMerle, that belonged to J.R. Harris and R.W. Henry, for a few years, before moving the family to Jasper, so he could work for the Texas Highway Department constructing Highway 8.
Ina Mae attended school at Plainview, Jasper and Bronson.
She was nine years old, when her father was shot in Jasper on November 1, 1925.
Creed Russell died four days later, leaving Lora a widow, with five children between the ages of three months and eleven years.
Lora Russell moved the family back to Bronson, where her family could help with survival.
Three years after Creed Russell's murder, when her mother married W.C. "Bill" Forse, of the Plainview Community, in 1929, her teacher, Charlie Forse, became her stepbrother.
Six years later, the family was complete with the birth of LaNell.
Her siblings were:
C.L. Russell (1914-1974)
Ina Mae Russell Barlow (1916-2001)
Wilson Roy "Billy" Russell (1918-1961)
Erma Moselle Russell Foster (1921-1972)
Leva Isabelle "Belle" Russell McLemore (1925-2007)
LaNell Forse Crow Bragg (1934-2015)
Ina Mae married Adron Horace "Dick" Barlow (1907-1987) on July 14, 1932.
Ina Mae was 16 and Dick was 24.
For the next 55 years, she was never away from his side for more than a day or two, except for the years during World War II, when Dick worked at the shipyard in Orange, and Ina Mae stayed at Pineland so the kids could stay in school.
Even then, Dick made it home on weekends.
Ina Mae was a professional Homemaker.
She had to be.
In their 55 years of marriage, she and Pappaw lived in at least ten different homes.
Ina Mae often said that "when the rapture comes, I will probably be in the middle of moving" and all their worldly possessions would be left in a ditch somewhere along the way.
She gave birth to Lamar Barlow at home, just east of Strickland Crossing on March 24, 1933.
Seventeen months later, Lora Beth was born at their next home, just southwest of Strickland Crossing on August 24, 1934.
Two years later, Wendall Joe (my Daddy) was born at their next home, in the Slip-Up-N-Hitch Community between Strickland Crossing and Plainview, near the Lott Cemetery, on September 1, 1936.
Two-and-a-half years later, Mary Virginia was born in their first home near Bear Creek, northwest of Pineland on March 22, 1939.
In less than six years, Ina Mae had set up home in four different places, while bearing four children.
That was the end of the children...but not the moving.
Just a year or two later the "Stagner House" at Bear Creek burned down.
They moved into a smaller sharecropper house next door, which I was raised in, and my mother still lives in.
Dick added on to the house to accommodate the family of six.
Ina Mae had a milk cow, chickens, and a garden, as well as a growing herd of beef cattle to tend to, as Dick farmed cotton and cut railroad ties.
With his crosscut saw, kerosene sling bottle, axe, broad axe, iron wedge, gluts, and wooden gauge, Dick could work circles around most men, turning out more crossties than anybody around.
They had no running water, no electricity, no telephone, no inside plumbing, no refrigerator...not even an icebox.
Ina Mae had a wood cook stove, kerosene lamps, a flatiron, a mud fireplace, an outhouse, a smokehouse and a corn crib.
Dick butchered his own hogs and the family bunked sweet potatoes, shelled peas and beans, shucked corn, cut okra, pulled squash, cucumbers and watermelons...and never went hungry.
Ina Mae canned pork sausage, vegetables, fruit, chow-chow, pickles, jelly and preserves.
Store-bought "Light Bread" was a rare treat, so Ina Mae made biscuits and cornbread every day.
Temple Lumber Company's sawmill whistle in Pineland could clearly be heard from 2-3 miles away and served as the Barlow's and other farm folks signal for lunch.
Life was simple...and good.
The Great Depression had very little impact on folks that lived off the land and had nothing in the bank.
During World War II, when Dick went off to work in the shipyard, Ina Mae and the kids moved into the "Conner House," a mile-or-so up the road, closer to the highway, to be closer to town with no man in the house.
Ina Mae never learned to drive and never wanted to.
Dick, as all Barlow men seem to be, was fascinated by cars and anything mechanical.
About 1945, they got electricity, and hung one bare light bulb in each room of the house, with a pull switch.
Soon after, Ina Mae had a refrigerator and an electric iron, which really changed her life.
In 1946, Dick and Arvil White bought a sawmill and set it up on a pice of land on the east side of US 96, a mile-or-so north of Pineland, where Pat Bradberry now lives.
Soon after, with lumber cut at his sawmill, Dick built a new three bedroom home and moved the family in next door to the sawmill.
Marie Beauchamp McBride now lives in this house.
Besides the sawmill, Dick sold used cars in front of the home, did carpentry work, bought and sold real estate, ran beef cattle on Bear Creek, and worked on everyone else's cars.
Ina Mae and Dick were instrumental in moving Martin Chapel Church from the Martin Cemetery, near Bear Creek, to a new location on the highway, where they renamed it Bethel Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
They were both baptized in Allen's Pond near their home on 96.
Bethel Chapel had "preaching" only twice a month, but had it on both Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Sunday School was conducted every Sunday.
In 1954 or 1955, Dick built a combination service station/grocery store between his mother's home and the Garage he had with L.P. Knight and Ivy Jacks.
Ina Mae and Dick ran the store for several years before selling it to Dick's brother, Boob Barlow.
The kids all graduated from Pineland High School between 1951 and 1958.
In about 1962, they sold everything and moved to Arkansas.
FindAGrave shows her as a daughter of Benjamin Franklin Russell and Fannie Evelyn White, as does Virgie Speights. She wrote that the Russell's came to Texas from Arkansas. She was one of 12 children who had seven siblings still living in 1964; sisters Mrs. Eula Habbard and Mrs. Bennie Davis of Huntington and Mrs Edwin Ogden of Woodville; and brothers Denman Russell of Galveston, Paul Russell of Lake Charles, Lewis Rusell and Cary Russell of Beaumont.

He died in Clarendon, Texas on Christmas Day of 1991. He was a cowboy on the JA Ranch in the Panhandle from the time he was about 10 until he married Jewel Bush when he was 21. He published a book about his cowboy days at the time of the Texas Sesquicentennial. Quite an interesting life. After his cowboy days, he became a butcher and at one time owned three meat markets; one in Clarendon, one in McLean and one in Shamrock TX. He was well known in the panhandle area. Roy Russell (30), a well-to-do Milam farmer, was stabbed in the lower stomach on the Hemphill courthouse steps by his nephew, Al HOLBERT (Halbert?), and died a few minutes later. According to M.S. MORRIS, an eyewitness, the stabbing grew out of an arguement over a pair of mules. After the stabbing, Ran Russell, a brother to Roy, attacked Holbert, but Holbert made his escape through the crowd. However, Holbert was soon found and arrested but since he had received several deep cuts on the neck and face he was taken to a hospital where he was kept under close guard.
R. D. Russell, 75, of Pineland died July 12 at his residence.

Marie L. Stewart was born on July 11, 1920, on a farm west of Milligan, Nebraska to Joseph and Rose (Vejraska) Sadlo the 4th of five children and passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at her home near Friend, Nebraska at the age of 92 years 4 months and 21 days. As a young girl she attended a country school near Milligan. During her high school years, she participated with her family in many Czech plays around the area, directed by her father. After her high school graduation from Milligan High School she received her teaching certificate and taught rural country schools near Milligan for a few years. Marie met John H. Stewart when he returned from serving in the US Army and they were united in marriage on September 12, 1944 in Wilber and to this union two children, Rose Marie and John L. were born.
Together they made their home on John's grandfather's farm where they lived their entire life. Marie was a busy mother and farm wife, helping John with the farming and especially enjoyed driving the tractor. She raised chickens, baby calves, and taking care of the cattle. Marie was never without her seed corn cap and work gloves. She was a very strong willed woman, a hard worker, a good cook and enjoyed providing for her family. In her later years, she loved her cats.
Marie and John enjoyed going to dances which created many memories for Marie and her family. Many hours were spent at family gatherings. She loved pitch and playing cards with her family and friends.
Marie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Dennis Melby, Fairmont, son and daughter-in-law, John and JoAnn Stewart, Friend, granddaughter and spouse, Rondalin and Brett Wells, Beatrice, five great-grandchildren, twins, Calvin and Camille and Reese, Triston and Madelynn, all of Beatrice, sister, Rose Marie Cecrle, Daykin, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 2011, two grandsons, Mark and Roger Combs, three brothers, Rudy, Jerry and Joe Sadlo, two brothers-in-law, Robert and Walter Stewart, two sisters-in-law, Katherine and Margaret.
Rose Marie Cecrle was born on a farm near Milligan, Nebr on August 25, 1921 to Joseph and Rosie (Vejraska) Sadlo. She was the youngest of 5 children.
Rose attended grade school at climbing Vine country school., District #44 in Fillmore county. She started school early as she was always running away after her siblings and waiting for them on the school steps, so her Mother just enrolled her. Her childhood was during the depression. She said we didn't realize we were poor because everybody was. She graduated at the age of 16 from Milligan High School in 1938. Rose was proud of the fact that their class was the first to wear caps and gowns for the graduation ceremony. Rose took normal training in high school, which enabled her to teach at the age of 16, at District #44 for 3 years. She then took summer classes at Peru State College and taught another 3 years at Opossum Hill School District # 77, making life time friends of her students. She then went to Lincoln and worked as a house keeper. She enjoyed going to dances with the military boys. Rose then returned home to take care of her elderly mother.
On October 18, 1945 Rose married Frank Cecrle at the courthouse in Lincoln. Frank was 10 years older than Rose and had known her as a child. He played in a band with her brothers. He always said he had to wait until she grew up to marry her. The couple purchased a 240 acre farm east of Daykin where she resided till 2 weeks before her death. Rose helped with all the farm work: operating farm equipment, driving grain trucks, taking care of farm chores. She was an active partner, even hand picking corn. They raised chickens, and hand milked cows. She said the cream and egg money paid off the farm. They raised sheep, and later discovered she was allergic to wool. Rose always had a huge garden and canned the produce.
They raised 3 childred, Dean, Barbara, Joyce.
Rose played a very active part in her family life, taking on the role of business leader of the family and keeping detailed records of life. She was involved in her children's lives serving as school car pool driver, 4-H leader, volunteer for church and school activities. Rose was a faithful member of the Daykin United Methodist Church. She held numerous committee positions and was recognized with the Unsung Saint Certificate. Rose taught a Sunday School class till the age of 85.
Rose & Frank loved to polka and waltz. They went dancing nearly every week with friends. They enjoyed traveling and took many bus tours. Mom always said "go while you can". They even went to Hawaii for a NE football game and weren't even hard core fans. For their 50th Anniversary they celebrated with the whole family on a Caribbean cruise. Her 80th birthday was celebrated with an Alaska family cruise.
Rose was a very competitive card player and pitch was the name of her game. She was a charter member of the Daykin Senior Citizens Card group. Rose taught her grandkids and great grandkids to play pitch, muggins, Chinese checkers, and a wild game of spoons.
You were always welcomed at Rose's home and never left hungry. She was proud of her Czech heritage and was well known for her kolaches, rolls, and dumplings. It was a tradition to have Grandma's mints at any special occasion and you always took one early because they went fast. For many years her home was the gathering place for holiday gatherings, staying at Grandma's was always fun. She was adored by the grandkids and she always encouraged them and told them what a good kid they were. Rose loved to active, she lovingly embroidered quilts. She made one for each child, grandchild, and great grandchild.
Rose is preceded in death by her husband Frank, son Dean, and great grandson Samuel Gudenkauf. Her parents Joseph & Rose (Vejraska) Sadlo, step mother Frances (Kreshel) , Rudy (Maggie), Jerry (Velma), Joe, Marie (John) Stewart.

A contributor to FamilySearch shows that James was in 36th MS Inf. Co. A per MS Confederate records. In www.civil-war.net I found a J.K. Sandifer in 1st Regement Miss. Inf. State Troops (King's) in company B as a Private.
He is also shown on this website as a son of Jesse William Sandifer (1809-1878) and Missouri Mariah Bishop (1814-1889).
On the 1950 Census, he was shown as a logging superintendant at a saw mill.
Find A Grave, Memorial ID 54708446, shows him as a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sandifer. He appears to have been married twice, first to Edna L Gerald (1883-1917) and later to Vernon Gupton (1890-1973).
When he registered for the World War I draft, he listed his place of birth as Pike County, Mississippi, and his current home address as 1 RFD, Barto, Mississippi. He was married and had three children, and was farming for himself in Barto. He was of medium heighth and build, with grey eyes and light colored hair.
His memorial page on FindAGrave, created by Kathy Bergold, shows him as a son of Jeff and Ida McDaniel Sandifer, and husband of Alice W. OTT.
