19621 I35286  Purkey  Robert H.  Nov 1867  Yes, date unknown  The 1880 Census shows that Robert Purkey was the son of George and Elizabeth Purkey of Virginia, who were living in Johns Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky at the time. Numerous internet trees show Elizabeth's maiden name as Williams, but no sources are given. They also show George as a son of Pleasant Purkey and Sarah Halsey, who married in Ashe County, NC (14 January 1841 in Ashe County, NC, with Terrell Cox as Bondsman (records at State Archives Raleigh, NC). They were living in Grayson County, VA at the time of the 1850 Census. See the bottom of the research notes for this census transcription.

The following FTM website has more about the Purkey family. It appears that the Purkey's in American descend from Johannes Arnold BIRKENBEIL of Germany, who settled in Baltimore, MD before the revolutionary war, and whose descendants moved westward.

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/p/u/r/Charles-Robert-Purkey/GENE7-0001.html

The name "Birkenbeil" is not a combination of "Birke" (German = birch) and "Beil" (German = hatchet), but it may come from the placename "Birkenbeul". E. g., there is "Birkenbeul" in the County of Altenkirchen in the Westerwald area in Germany. "Birkenbeul" = former "Birkenbuegel" or "Birkenbuehl"; "Buehl" is a word for a small "hill". Some of my anchestors come from Birkenbeul; and as a similar aliteration I found, that the name "Hackebeil" comes from original "Hackebeuel" or "Hackebuegel", also in the Westerwald local dialect. (Post by Eckart Schwab on June 25, 2000 to Genealogy.com, Surnames: Berkebile Family Genealogy Forum. )

A direct male descendant of Lloyd Elmer Purkey had a 36 marker yDNA study done at FamilyTreeDNA. He is registered on ySearch with the user ID 5S8DF. His allele values appear to be similiar to another PURKEY who was a participant in the BIRKENBINE yDNA study:

19625 I25823  Putnam  Beadie Mary  4 May 1894  12 Mar 1957  The 1920 and 1930 census instead list her place of birth as Alabama.

Beadie was very young when her mother died. She spent much of her youth in the households of various relatives, virtually as a servant. After her father died, she went to live with her Aunt Hattie McMillian. They lived on the right just as you enter the fairgrounds in Fayetteville. She had no real home of her own. Probably because of this, she became extremely serious, frugal and hard-working. She would work in the cotton fields with the men, then come home and prepare a large meal. She was an exceptionally good cook. She was a beautiful young woman, intelligent and hardworking. She went from nothing to having a home, family and money. Yet, because of childhood scars, she was never to feel secure and life was always a bleak place for her.

19648 I23298  Quinn  Sidney Paul  18 Oct 1932  4 Mar 2014  QUINN Sidney Paul Quinn passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. He was 81 years old. Mr. Quinn was born in Sturgis, MS to the late Grady and Lucine Quinn, joining his brother, the late James Quinn. As a young man, Mr. Quinn moved to New Orleans to be among his mother's extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. It was in New Orleans that he met and married the love of his life, Mrs. Patricia Ann Quinn. Over the course of his 55 years of marriage to Patricia, Mr. Quinn's life was enriched by the lives of his children; Pamela, Cynthia, Mary, Kathy and Michael. Counting the many blessings of his family, he would often remark "I'm the richest man in the world." Mr. Quinn dearly loved each of his children's spouses; Jorge, Todd, Jon, Tony and Michele. His ten grandchildren and 1 great grandchild were a great source of pride and joy; Joshua, Amanda, Christopher, Heather, Alexander, Quinn, Jonathan, Avery, Kirby, Abigail and little Jack. In the final years of his life, Mr. Quinn never missed an opportunity to express his gratitude to those who cared for him and about him. He endured nearly six painful years without complaint or regret. He was fortified by simple things; phone calls from cousins, friends and laughter with everyone who visited. Mr. Quinn was heartened by the wonderful care he received from Notre Dame Hospice. He was deeply touched by the constant stream of support from the St. Anselm Church community. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11 am at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary St, Madisonville, LA 70447. Visitation will be held from 10 am until service time. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Sidney P. He is presently farming the home place which has been in the family for over 75 years. He is a member of the Morse Bluff V.F.D. and Legion Post No. 340 of Morse Bluff.

Obituary

Keith Eugene Racek, 84 years, of Morse Bluff, NE lost his battle with cancer on Monday, February 22, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.

He was the oldest of 2 children born on March 2, 1936 to Ray and Mayme (Chvatal) Racek near Morse Bluff, NE.

Keith grew up like most kids of this time, playing with his brother Bob spending time with his friends (the nearer the neighbor was the closer the friendship). Keith spent many hours with Marv Hines, walking to school together, sharing a pint of ice cream with 2 wooden spoons as they walked home after school. Keith went to Morse Bluff school till 10th grade then went to North Bend til he graduated high school. Keith enlisted in the Army March 27, 1959 where he served 2 years in the Fort Lewis, Washington. He felt he could have stayed in Washington to be a logger if his father hadn't instilled a responsibility to the farm. He returned to Morse Bluff and the farm and put his everything into what was needed. Keith was a humble, caring, supportive, hard working, and fiercely loyal to those who were there for him. Morse Bluff and its people meant a lot to Keith he grew up on the same farm where he lost his battle against cancer.

Keith was a volunteer fireman for many years and ran the road grader for 23 years. He was on the township board for 61 years, American Legion, and board member of the Killian Cemetery managing the ground. He became a ZCBJ member at the age of 1 when his parents bought him a policy. Since then, it changed names to WFLA which Keith continued to be an active member to assist the Czech community. In 1995, Keith met Gilberta "Gilly" Gregg and after 2 years of dating they married.

Keith enjoyed becoming a father and grandfather. Keith and Gilly made a great life together, working hard on the farm, assisting Mayme until she passed in 2003, and attending WFLA conventions and toy shows. Keith had a passion for John Deer (model size) toy tractors and successfully rebuilt over 200.

Keith went from hospital to nursing home trying to recover from pneumonia when he received the news of cancer. Gilly could not stand the thought of Keith going through all that away from home and her. Keith's wish was to be at home until the end. He was in a lot of pain and discomfort during his last days, but Gilly fulfilled Keith's wish to be at home.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob; and nephew, Jim.

He is survived by wife, Gilly; children, Gregg Dau, Kendra (Mark) Remington, Renee (Jeff) Robinson, and Clay Mueller; grandchildren, Faith Wagner, Alex Wagner, Dru Mueller, Camden Mueller, Hunner Juzenas, Parker Robinson, Kennen Robinson, Kloey Dau, Elizabeth Remington, Alisha Micek, and Lexi Micek; nieces, Laura Macinio and Bonnie Vaughan; nephews, Ted and Paul Racek.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M. at the North Bend funeral home. Friends and family will be sharing memories of Keith starting at 4 P.M..

In Lieu of Flowers, please give donations to Morse Bluff American Legion, Killian Cemetery, or Morse Bluff Volunteer Fire Department.
