James R. Fuller, in his autobiography, wrote that his uncle Ray McCroskey told him "that his father and two of his brother's left their hometown of Sparks, Georgia and traveled to the Chicago World Fair. On their way home, they ran out of money in Pollock, Louisiana, a booming sawmill town. They were all able to get jobs their, and settled in that area for a time. Though two of the brothers later moved to Jasper, Texas, Bob remained in Pollock a bit longer, and it was there he married Maudie Alva Roberts. "

His beloved wife preceded him, as did two daughters, Ether Murl (Merrill) Perry and Joyce McDaniel. Surviving children and spouses are: Barbara and Wilbur Smith of Gainesville, Texas, Carlin and Mary Ann McDaniel of Hemphill, Texas, and Glen and Dee McDaniel of Lufkin, Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren Kristie Vick, John McDaniel, Casey Weghorst, Brett McDaniel, and Kyle McDaniel; and four great-grandchildren, Colter and Sarah Vick and Tatum and Hank Weghorst.
Mr. "Mac" was proud of his family, which he considered the most important thing in his life. His Christian faith and affiliation with the Baptist Church since 1946 were also important to him, guiding him through many trials and tribulations in life.
When he was 15, "Mac" left his cocoon in East Texas and joined the Citizens' Military Training Camp, where he served for four summers, earning an officer's commission in the United States Army. He went on to become what would now be called a disc jockey at Radio Station KRIC in Beaumont. In 1941, he began his career as an air traffic controller. He was very proud of his work and remembered well the many times he helped the famous and not so famous, one of the famous being then Vice-President Lyndon Johnson, as he would fly into and out of the Austin airport.
Mr. McDaniel was an avid and expert gardener, and many people were the recipients of his garden produce. He loved people, and spent a lifetime giving to others. He will be sorely missed by many.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Hill Cemetery Association, c/o Weldon McDaniel, P.O. Box 174, Hemphill, TX 75948.

Dwight Patrick McDaniel died on the 9th day of February, 2006 at the age of 55 in Houston, Texas. Dwight was born on June 10, 1950 at Brooke Army Hospital at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. As a son of an army officer, Dwight lived on different army bases throughout his childhood including Quarry Heights in the Panama Canal Zone and Fort Myer in Washington, D.C. After graduating from Lutcher Stark High School in Orange, Texas in 1968, Dwight attended Baylor University from 1968-69 and The University of Hawaii from 1969-70 before traveling extensively in the South Sea Islands. As part of his oceanography studies at the University of Hawaii, Dwight worked on a research ship in his Spring semester that journeyed from Hawaii to New Guinea. At the end of this voyage, Dwight remained in New Guinea and spent over three years living and working in Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, and the Fiji Islands. It was during this time that he developed a love for mountain climbing and hiking, and worked briefly as an instructor and guide. In 1971, Dwight returned to the United States, worked for Temple Industries, Pineland, and then attended The University of Texas at Austin. Dwight's love for the outdoors and mountaineering took him to Banff, Alberta, Canada in the Spring of 1976 where he met his future wife, Patricia Ann Tweten of Leader, Saskatchewan, Canada. Dwight and Pat were married two years later on June 29, 1978 in Missoula, Montana where Dwight was attending The University of Montana. Dwight graduated from The University of Montana with a journalism degree in 1979. After graduation, he worked as a reporter for a newspaper in Lufkin, and later, for a bank in Cushing, Texas. In 1985, Dwight earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston. Dwight practiced law in Longview, Texas with his brother, Stephen White McDaniel, from 1985-90. In 1990, Dwight moved to Hemphill, Texas where he established a private law practice, served as Sabine County Attorney for a number of years, and with his brother, built a computerized title company, Toledo Bend Title. In addition to mountaineering and hiking, Dwight was interested in history and read extensively on the American Civil War. He also authored numerous short stories and a novel, and maintained a diary to his son, Harper Longstreet McDaniel, from Harper's birth until he was eight years old. Dwight Patrick McDaniel is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Tweten McDaniel; his son, Harper Longstreet McDaniel; brother, Stephen White McDaniel; sister-in-law, Marcia Sue Burlison McDaniel; and niece, Erin Colleen McDaniel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Cecil McDaniel and Loye Winona White McDaniel; and his nephew Stephen White McDaniel, II. He will be remembered as an adventurer, scholar, and mountaineer. Dwight was by birth and nature a kind and generous husband, father, son, brother and uncle who will be truly missed by his family and all who knew him. Visitation will be from 4:00-9:00pm Sunday evening, February 12, 2006, at Starr Funeral Home, Hemphill, Texas. Known as Mr. Mack. Was a logger, who recalls the days when rafting logs down the Sabine River to Orange was an annual trip. A log drive was an exciting adventure, full of surprises, but it was no place for any man or boy who could not swim well or who was afraide of a cold plunge into the deep waters, often full of timber for miles on end, which could be dangerous. Parents of one son and daughters Mrs. Edna White, Mrs. Bessie Kelly of Beaumont; Mrs. Essie Hamm and Mrs. Maida Harper of Dallas; Mrs. Cleo Hill of Tyler and Mrs. Winnie Tatom of Pineland.

Imogene McDaniel Oglesbee was born in Fairdale on June 22, 1911, to William L. McDaniel and Lula Burr McDaniel. She passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2008, at Colonial Pines Healthcare Center, where she had resided for more than 12 years.
Imogene grew up in the small Sabine County farming town of Fairdale and attended the Fairdale Community School. Her teen years were spent living in Silsbee with her sister Opal, where she graduated from high school and met her future husband, John Henry Oglesbee Sr.

The family moved to San Augustine in 1940, where they became active members of First Baptist Church. John Sr., a member of the deacon body, was instrumental in the planning and construction oversight of the present sanctuary. Imogene was supportive in all endevors of the church, especially those in which her husband or children were involved. She was a GA leader during Janell's growing years. A wonderful cook, she was ready and willing to assist with church dinners and special events.
Mrs. Oglesbee loved to travel, enjoyed being around people of all ages, and always looked at life's events with a positive attitude and keen wit. She took an active part in local school and community activities over the years, often serving as a home room mother in her children's classrooms. She was a charter member of the San Augustine Garden Club.
Imogene is survived by her son, John Henry Oglesbee Jr. and wife Betty of San Augustine; daughter, Janell Oglesbee Watson and husband Charles of San Augustine; six grandchildren, Dr. John Oglesbee III and wife Sharon; Vance Oglesbee and wife Angela; Valerie Watson Stringer and husband, Mike; Chris Oglesbee and wife Gina; Van Watson and wife Karen; and Forrest Oglesbee and wife Sabrina; 10 great-grandchildren, John Oglesbee IV and wife Ellen; Joshua Oglesbee; Sara Oglesbee; Kristen Oglesbee; Zachary Watson; Anna Marie Oglesbee; Bailey Watson; Jim Oglesbee; Brittani Oglesbee; and Jackson Oglesbee; a sister, Lyndell McDaniel Jensen and husband, Soren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Imogen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; three brothers, Leland McDaniel, Claude McDaniel, and Woodrow McDaniel; and a sister, Opal McDaniel Ellison.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of San Augustine with Bro. Rick Russell officiating.
Interment followed at Liberty Hill Cemetery near San Augustine.
Services were under the direction of Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in San Augustine, Texas. Online obituary and condolences accepted at www.timeformemory.com/wymanroberts.

POSSIBLY a step-son of Ross McDaniel. Was listed with him as a 13 year old (born 1917) son at the time of the 1930 census, but NOT at the time of the 1920 census. Listed as a son, and absent from home, at the time of the 1940 census. His occupation in 1940 was shown as Laborer, C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corps), however his age was shown as 19, putting his year of birth closer to 1921. This is likely the reason he was "missing" in 1920.
Laura Buckmaster shows that he married in 1901 Mollie Emma Dainwood (dtr of John Andrew Dainwood and Almedia Love). Her dates are shown as 1887-1956. Barbara Yancey Dore also shows this first marriage.
