Stanley Matejovsky passed away at Ingleside and the remains were interred in the national Bohemian cemetery Sunday afternoon. The funeral services were held jointly with that of Josef Svec. The bodies were taken to the auditorium where the services were held. The body of Josef Svec was conduted tot he cemetery and interred and then the remains of Stanley Matejovsky were disposed of in a like mannger.
Stanley Matejovsky was born in Milligan November 12, 1897. He graduated from the Milligan High School with the class of 1916. After finishing his school work he worked here as a farm hand and it was because of his industry and his faithfulness as well as his habits of thrift that he won for himself the respect and esteem of everyone.
It is not so important in life as to the nature of work in which we are engaged. The important thing is that we be engaged int eh first place and that we do what we are engaged in with some degree of efficiency. That is waht this boy did and that is what won for him the commendation and the love of his fellows. Stanley made his home with his father, who was the caretaker of cemeteries and as a school boy he helped his father in this work. He became afflicted with epilepsy and it was this malady which caused his demise.
Stanley Matejovsky passed away at the age of 34 years, 8 months and 1 day. There survive him his mother, Rose Matejovsky of Geneva ans his brother Edward, a sister, Agnes Redmond of Vetal, S.D., three half brothers, Joseph Janda of Exeter, Gust Janda of Fairmont and Vincent Janda of Rapid City, S. D., two half sisters, Estella Posvar of Pender and Emma Yech of Colorado and two step sisters, Mary Sluka of Geneva and Anna Bures of Fairmont.
Could he have been married twice? At the time of the 1880 census, he is listed as married to a Fanny, which is indeed a nickname for Frances, and she is the correct age. However, there is an 8 year gap between daughter Emma and her younger siblings, and Emma is listed after the two younger children, and not before them, which is usual. FindAGrave indicates he was also married to Malinda Mississippi Murray (1855-1918).

FindAGrave shows that he was born in Wilkes County, Georgia. His mother Selah/Celia Ann, born in North Carolina ca 1779/1780, was living with his family at the time of both the 1850 and 1860 Federal census.
The FindAGrave memorial (#34734655) for Reece Mathews, born 30 Oct 1810 in Georgia, states that Reece was a son of Abraham Mathews and Elizabeth Burroughs, and brother of Inlow. Reece is also buried in the Thomas cemetery, and lived in close proximity to Inlow at the time of the 1850 and 1860 census.
Additionally, in 1860, both families were listed with Selah/Celia/Cilia Mathews, age 80, born in North Carolina as a member of their household, even though they were in seperate homes. It is assumed they were brothers, and both sons of Celia Mathews.

Her Texas Death Certificate shows that her usual occupation was that of a school teacher. She was a resident of Geneva, Sabine County, Texas at the time of her death, and her name at death was shown as Julia Eppie Harris, with the informant being Joe Leon Harris Jr.
Laura Carolyn Mathews Epps (Carolyn) went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2017 at the young age of 85. Carolyn was born on April 2nd 1931 in San Augustine, Texas to Mabel Miller Mathews and Lonny Mathews (deceased) and was married to the love of her life, Richard Kenneth Epps, Jr.(Ken) for almost 67 years.
Carolyn grew up in San Augustine in a loving family. She was the youngest of 5 siblings (Miller Mathews, Clifton Mathews, Helen Jean Lake, Dr. Victor Mathews, '96 all deceased) who affectionately called her "Sissy", which later became "Aunt Sissy" to her many nieces and nephews. The siblings were especially close because their father was killed in an accident six weeks before she was born and their mother died when she was 16; the Mathews' Clan (as many referred to them) overcame the tragedies and remained together, supported by the older brothers. They have had annual family reunions every Christmas for the last 63 years, a tradition that continues to this day.
Carolyn and Ken are blessed with four wonderful children: Deborah Kay Vaughan and husband Tom, Richard K Epps, III, Robert Mathews Epps and wife Terry, Betty Kim Bradshaw and husband Kent; Eleven grandchildren - Jennifer Vaughan Buttery (deceased), Kristin Vaughan Mrnustik, Michele Vaughan Sparkman, Clayton Vaughan, Alison Epps, Hallie Epps, Danielle Epps, Brian Bradshaw, Tyler Bradshaw, Scott Bradshaw, and Brooke Bradshaw; and fourteen great grandchildren with another two expected later this year.
Carolyn loved the Lord with all her heart and wasn't afraid to share that love with others. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church for many years and involved in Bible studies and Cursillo. She will always be remembered as an incredible and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. Carolyn was full of joy and fun with a huge heart and generous spirit, known for her ever present sweet and inviting smile, quick wit, sense of humor, and availability at a moments' notice to help others. She adored all of her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carolyn, aka Mimi, was dearly loved and will be dearly missed.
A Memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday February 17th, 12:30pm in the chapel at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee at Sam Houston Tollway, Houston, Texas. Internment services will be held on Saturday, February 18th, at Antioch Church of Christ Cemetery at 2 pm in San Augustine, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.

FindAGrave shows him as a son of Abraham Mathews and Elizabeth (???) Burroughs, and brother of Inlow Mathews. There is an Inlow Mathews who also has a memorial at FindAGrave (FAG #34734320). That Inlow Mathews was shown as born ca 1815, also in Georgia (possibly Wilkes County). However, Inlow Mathews appears to be the son of a woman named Selah/Celia Ann, whom was living with his family in San Augustine County at the time of the 1850 and 1860 Federal Census. Of interest is the fact that "Celie Mathes, age 80, Female, NC" was ALSO listed in the home of Reese Mathews at the time of the 1860 Federal Census. In the home of Inlow, she was listed as "Cilia A. Matthews, age 80, Female, NC." It is assumed she was listed in both homes as she lived with both from time to time? The enumeration of Inlow Mathews home was on 30 July 1860, and that of the home of Reese Mathews was in 1 August 1860. The two men lived only about 20 households apart.
It is thefore assumed that Reese and Inlow are indeed brothers, both sons of the Celia that was listed in both of their homes in 1860. Her maiden name may be Burroughs, but this is not proven. Nor is the name of their father (possibly Abraham) proven.

May have been listed twice on the 1870 census? as Wm., age 15 and as W. R. Mathews, age 14? Or are these two different siblings? There was only one male child of this approximate age in 1860, 7 year old William.
In 1910 and in 1920 he was living with his brother, Inlow Lee, and was listed as Single at both enumerations.
FindAGrave shows her as a daughter of Martin Matthews (TX) and Ann Gellatly (Scotland), whom are also listed as her parents on her Texas Death Certificate.
Her Texas Death Certificate shows her as a daughter of George R. Mathews and Mary Halbert, and that she was born in Geneva, Sabine County, Texas. The informant was her daughter, Mary Taylor.
Find A Grave shows him as a son of Henry Friedrich Matthies and Lizzie Anne Strauss, whom both also have memorials on that website. This family can be found in Fillmore County, Nebraska at the time of the 1930 census. Louis is the middle of their then three children, Mabel, age 14, Louis 10, and Leslie (son) D. age 7. All three children were shown as born in Nebraska, as were their parents.
He is instead listed as Kermit James Matthews on the North Carolina Death Index. His DOB was shown as 28 Sep 1918, and DOD as 24 Dec 1995, in Durham. He died at a nursing home, and was divorced.
When he registered for the draft during World War I, he listed his name as Willie James Matthis, resident of Ingold, NC. His date of birth was shown as 13 Apr 1885, and his occupation was farming. His nearest relative was Annie Matilda Matthis, also of Ingold. The was tall and slender, with Brown eyes and dark hair. When he opened a Social Security account in November of 1938, his birthday was instead listed as 13 Mar 1885, with his parents being Beatty T. Matthis and Emma L. Caison.

His usual home was in Garland, NC, but he died as an inmate of the Raleigh State Hospital of Chronic Cardio Vascular Disease.
