Doris Lewis Cooper will celebrate the her 100 birthday on July 30, at the Christian Life Center of the First Baptist Church in Pineland.
She was born on July 30, 1911 in Bleakwood. She is the great-great-granddaughter of Samuel Lewis, who served in the first Texas Congress as representative for what is now Jasper. She lived in Newton County until she was 15 years old. At that time she moved with her family to a farm near Milam. She amrried James (Jim) Cooper in 1932. They had five children: Winona WILSON of Richardson, Jimmie ADDISON of Crowley, Ruth CATES of Fort Worth, Arlon COOPER of Pineland and Doris FISK of Forth Worth.
The family moved to Hemphill in 1951. After all the children graduated from Hemphill High School, the family moved to Fort Worth, she she lives now alone in her own home. Three daughters live near by. She cooks her meals, takes care of herself, and the house. She uses a walker, because of arthritis; otherwise she is in fairly good health.
She has been an active church member most of her life. She loves to play "42" a domino game, and she reads Christian novels.
She did not have a career. She was a housewife, who spent her summers canning the produce the farm provided. She was a wonderful mother to her children. She is grandmother to 11, great grandmother to 22, and great-great grandmother to four. She is favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews.
If you knew her when she lived in Sabine County, or if you knew her children, you are welcome to attend her birthday party from 2 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 30.
Effie was the daughter of David W. LEWIS of Sangamon County, Illinois and Mollie J. BRIZINDINE. Effie's father was in the 10th Illinois Cavalry. He moved to Arapahoe, Nebraska after the death of his wife.
Effie met her husband John while she was teaching at the Possum Hill School in Tobias. She was lodging with John's uncle, Noah Frankforter.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and Ladies Aide. She was one of the first members of the Milligan Methodist Church. She was also active in the Milligan Library and was president of the Library Board from 1951 to 1956 and served as a librarian for about 15 years. (Milligan, p 271).
The daughter of Theodore Gardner LEWIS and Erie BURT. Eleanor was named for her paternal grandmother, Eleanor WORDEN, but shared a special relationship with her maternal grandmother, Eliza Maria PATTISON. They took a special trip together when she was 5, and she remembered it fondly as an adult. Eleanor was a packrat, and saved all the family memorabilia from all sides of the family, enabling her daughter Jo to use identifiable pictures to illustrate her genealogical work. Jo now has 50+ notebooks filed with family information, much of it saved by her mother.
It appears he had been previously married. Listed with his family in the 1860 San Augustine County, Texas census, he was shown as married to 24 year old Arminta Haggerty. His oldest daughter, Precious, was age 13 (born ca 1847), who was born prior to his marriage to Araminta. His mother-in-law, Melinda Haggerty, is also living with them.

The names of Will's parents and siblings are currently unknown, though it appears from census listings that his parents were born in Lousiana. He can first be positively identified on the 1910 Tillman County, Oklahoma census, where he is living in a boarding house and working as a cook. At the time of the 1920 census, he was married and still working as a cook, but in Chickasha. Will was said to have died very shortly after this census enumeration, when his son Cecil was still very young.
He registered for the draft in Grady County, OK. His full name was listed as William Ernest Lewis, and his address at the time was 302 N. Fifth Street, Chickasha. His date of birth was shown as Sept. 6, 1882, and he was white and a native born US citizen. His occupation was given as Owner, Lunch Counter, and the business address was 101 Ohio Avenue, Chickasha. The nearest relative was Stella Lewis, his wife, and Will was described as short, slender, and with grey eyes and black hair. FHL Roll Number 18517777 Draft Board 1. The birth certificate of his son, Cecil Afton Lewis, shows his location of birth as Austin, Texas.
Will's wife, Stella, married Walter STRONG not quite six months after the 1920 census enumeration. Will was ill with tuberculosis, and was said to have died in a hospital in Oklahoma, although a death certificate has not been located. His grandchildren think it is possible that he may have actually died in either Texas or Arizona, where he may have moved for his health. It is also possible that he moved to Louisiana, where he was said to have still had family. Stella and the children accompanied him briefly to Arizona, but they returned to Oklahoma before he died.

Note: This appears to be a boarding house of sorts. Will lived here with 12 other men, in addition to William Cox, the head of the household. Each of the other occupants of the home was listed as "Partime" or "Partuer." They ranged in age from 17 to 57, with most of them being employed as restaurant Waiters or Cooks, others as Laborers at odd jobs, and a few as self employed as carpenters or machinists.
At the time of the 1920 Federal census, Stella and Will Lewis were renting a home at 129 Chickasha Avenue in Chickasha. Their census listing read as follows:

It is POSSIBLE, that either of the families below might be his at the time of the 1900 census. Both families have a connection to Lousiana, and both had sons named Will who were born within two years of the age Will reported on the 1910 and 1920 census. However it is noted that neither family is located in Travis County, where Will was said to have been born. Additionally, it does not appear likely either of the Willie Lewis's below are the Will Lewis who later married Stella Crouch, as online trees for both family groups below show the Will Lewis's below marryng (in each case someone other than Stella Crouch) and dying much later than 1920.

The haplogroup was predicted as J1, and there were no surname matches, and only a few non-surname matches. This haplogroup is believed to have arisen between 10,000 and 15,000 years ago in the Near East, the region encompassing the Levant, (modern Israel and the Palestinian territories, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon), Turkey, and Mesopotamia (Iraq and eastern Syria). A significant fraction of Jews belong to haplogroup J, but Jews represent a small minority of the European members of the haplogroup. The "Cohen Modal Haplotype" is a specific set of six Y-STR marker values that occurs in both J1 and J2, though at a much higher frequency in J1. It is likely that those of Cohanim descent and carrying the CMH belong to the J1 haplogroup. It should be noted that. in this sample, the value of 13 at 388 is 3 steps away from the norm of 16 at that marker for the Cohen Modal Haplotype. It does match the CMH on the other five markers (DYS19, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393).
Rosalie Anna Mae Cecile Leze Anderson, 93, of Hemphill died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at Hemphill Care Center. Rosalie graduated from Hemphill High School in 1931. On Dec. 30, 1933, she married Simon Elton "Pete" Anderson. They were married 72 years before Pete died on Feb. 28, 2006. Rosa could not accept his death. She thought that he was missing and kept watching each day for him to come back to her. So once again they are together. George Linxwiler, grandfather of Isaac W. Linxwiler, was born in the town of Two Bridges*, Germany, April, 1768, and attended school in his native country from six to fourteen years of age, receiving a good common school education. He then served an apprenticeship of three years, learning the miller's trade. He emigrated to the United States, landing at New York in 1785, and going from there to Pennsylvania. He was married in 1790 to Miss Catherine Stull, a native of the same place in Germany, born June 5, 1767. After coming to New York in 1785, she worked three years in the city to pay her passage to America. They probably resided in Pennsylvania for several years after their marriage, removing to Vanderburgh County previous to 1809. George Linxwiler died February 22, 1857, his wife early in November, 1858.

*Zweibrucken is derived from the fact that there are two bridges in the town. After Romans have settled in this area the Counts of Saarbr?cken (named after the river Saar) founded a castle in 1150 in the loop formed by the small river Schwarzbach just before it merges with the small river Hornbach.

Sidney served in the civil war. He was assigned to Co. C, 27 Texas Cavalry(Whitfields Legion, 1 Texas Legion). He enlisted on April April 15, 1862. He enlisted at Shelbyville. He was under the command of Capt. John H Broocks.
27th Cavalry Regiment [also called 1st Texas Legion] was organized during the spring of 1862 using Whitfield's 4th Texas Cavalry Battalion as its nucleus. Many of the men were recruited at Daingerfield, Clarksville, and Paris, and in Titus County. After fighting at Elkhorn Tavern as a battalion, only 9 officers and 111 men were present. The unit moved east of the Mississippi River and was dismounted. It then fought at Iuka and Corinth and during the fall was remounted. Later it saw action in Mississippi, was assigned to Ross' Brigade, took part in the Atlanta and Tennessee Campaigns, then returned to Mississippi. This regiment was organized with 1,007 officers and men, lost twenty-two percent of the 460 engaged at Iuka, and surrendered only a handful on May 4, 1865. The field officers were Colonels John W. Whitfield and Edwin R. Hawkins, Lieutenant Colonel John H. Broocks, and Majors Cyrus K. Holman and John T. Whitfield

Barbara Cunningham, in her "Farris and Cunningham Family Ancestors" tree, posted at WorldConnect at Rootsweb, shows that Delana married Earnest PINNELL and second Sam BARTON. She also has a date of death as ca. 1930.
Melba McLemore shows the same two marriages, on 23 Sept 1917 to Earnest Clyde Pinnell, and on 26 May 1927 in Texas to Sammy Gilespy Barton. Melba has a much later date of death listed, however, that of March 1986.
I was not able to locate either Delana or Earnest Pinnell at the time of the 1920 census.
In 1930 Delana is shown with her second husband, S. Glispie BURTON, in Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma (ED 33-2, SD 8, Sheet 1B, 720-17-17). He was listed as age 43, born in Texas to a father born in Missouri, and working as a carpenter. Delana is shown with the first initial E, age 39, and born in Texas. Children in the household are H. Lowell (son) age 17, Lenys (dtr) age 14, Davis (dtr?) age 12, and Margarett (dtr) age 2. The three oldest children were all born in Texas, perhaps by a prior marriage of Gillispie Burton's? Only daughter Margarett (age 2) was born in Oklahoma. Based on the date of marriage, only Margarett could have been a child of Delana's.

Funeral services for Darrell Leon Loggins, 51, of Hudson, will be held Monday, March 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. Micah Williams and Bro. Gordon Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Chinquapin Cemetery in San Augustine County.
Darrell was born November 18, 1969 in Center, Texas, to Leon Loggins and Linda Kay (Rhodes) Loggins, and died Thursday, March 25, 2021 at his residence.
Darrell worked as a Registered Respiratory Therapist at CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial Hospital in Lufkin for 12 years. He attended Rosevine United Pentecostal Church. Darrell's life revolved around his son Ethan. It was Ethan's world, and he was just living in it. Darrell enjoyed reading, riding his motorcycle, racing his car, and lifting weights. He was an avid Oilers fan, almost as much as he was a non-Cowboys fan. If there were only two musical artists in existence, Van Halen and Dwight Yoakam would have Darrell covered.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Amber Loggins of Hudson; son, Ethan Cade Loggins of Hudson; parents, Leon and Linda Loggins of Rebecca, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and April Loggins of San Augustine; brother, Kent Loggins of Hudson; nephews, Cole and Kyle; nieces, Kailyn and Cierra; along with a large extended family and many friends.
Darrell was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Horace and Virgie Lee Loggins; maternal grandfather, Hershel Rhodes, Sr.; maternal grandmother, Adell Burch; grandfather, Loy "Pa Skeet" Burch; uncles, Tim Rhodes, Hershel, Jr., James, Paul Albert, Tommy, Sr., Kenneth Earl, and Kenny Loggins; and aunt, Glenda Ward.
Pallbearers will be Ethan Loggins, Chuck Loggins, Kent Loggins, Cole Loggins, Kyle Loggins, Joe Bourghs, and Ivy Reynolds.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Loggins, Brendon Ward, Brayden Ratliff, Gilbert Burch, Blayne Rhodes, Gary Rhodes, and Mike Rhodes.
Special memorials may be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd.
Houston, Texas 77030.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Borje Anderrson and Dr. Kyle Krohn for their dedication to his care.
