Obituary
WILLIAM MAURICE JOOS,
100, of Independence, MO formerly of Cass City went to be at the right hand of God Sunday, October 23, 2011 in Northcare Hospice House, North Kansas City, MO. He was born July 18, 1911 in Cass City to Frederick William and Hattie (Muck) Joos. He married Eva Mae Sovey February 27, 1937. She died October 11, 1967. He later married Frances Diebel August 26, 1972 in Lapeer. She died June 9, 1995.
Maurice worked on the family farm with his Dad. He also worked for McClellan Creamery, the Nestles Plant in Cass City, Peters Sawmill, REA, Dr. Donahue Farms, and the Ford Garage. He retired from Bauer Candy Company after 27 years as a Salesman. Maurice's passions in life were serving the Lord and his church. He would brag to everyone who visited that he was a member of the Cass City United Methodist Church for 78 years and that he sang in the choir for 73 years. He sang in different men's choruses, quartets and trios and even sang on the radio in Detroit. Another passion of Maurice's was baseball. He loved the Detroit Tigers. He was able to see five games since he came to Independence, MO. This summer when Detroit came to play Kansas City he was able to get out to the ballpark and cheer for his Detroit team. When the Tigers would get the Kansas City Royals out he would clap his hands and have a big grin on his face. This may have been the first time he ever attended a major league game. He was amazed at the condition of the field. Maurice often boasted about his .350 batting average in high school. God had a plan for Maurice to watch his Detroit Tigers have a winning season and when they lost to the Texas Rangers his mission was over. The Lord wanted Maurice to play baseball for him now.
Maurice is survived by his sons: Richard (Connie) Joos of Independence, MO, Donald (JoEllen) Joos of Grand Rapids; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ted Diebel; sisters-in-law: Bob and Mary (Diebel) Dast, Jerry and Florence (Diebel) Decker, Lola Diebel; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters: Lena Hanes and Helen Jezewski; great grandson, Ryan Joos.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2011 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Chuck Emmert of Duplain Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to NorthCare Hospice, North Kansas City, MO. Maurice's family would like to give special thanks to NorthCare Hospice nurses who were so good and caring for him. Also a thank you to the friends that visited him: Gary Bernhardt, Bob and Joyce McArthur, Bob and Mary Dast. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.

A. C. Jordan, noble pioneer, has joined silent majority. A. C. Jordan of Hornbeck, a Confederate veteran in his eighty-eighth year, died suddenly in the Leesville hospital shortly after two o'clock Sunday afternoon and was buried at Holly Grove Monday afternoon. Andrew Allen Veatoh, of the Church of Christ, delivering the funeral eulogy. Besides those from his home community and elsewhere many people from Leesville attended the funeral for Mr. Jordan, was widely known and highly esteemed.
He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Mollie Ellis of Hornbeck; Mrs Ida McQueen of Jasper, Texas; Mrs. Abbie Ellis of Port Arthur, Texas; Mrs. Elsie Field of Wichita Falls, Texas; and a son, A. C. Jordan, Jr. of Port Arthur, Texas, all of whom were at his funeral. The four daughters were with him when he expired.
A. C. Jordan was born February 14, 1842 in Jasper County, Texas, about where the town of Jasper now stands. That part of Texas was then a wilderness abounding with game, and it was no uncommon thing for roving bands of Indians to pass through on hunting expeditions or enroute to Natchitoches to trad peltry for necesaries; and it was quite an event to Mr. Jordan, then a little boy, when the dusky tribesman would camp near by and he could visit them.
At the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted in the Confederate army, in which he served till the surrender. He was on the trying 30 days march from Morgan City to North Louisiana to oppose General Banks Red River Expedition. He was with Dick Taylor's Confederate lions at the Battle of Mansfield when Banks and his haughty invaders were huried back in discomfiture, and at the Battle of Pleasant Hill the next day when the Union forces were driven from the field in confusion and dismay. From that on clear to Alexandria it was a running fight for several days, the Northern troops doing the running the Confederates doing the fighting.
After the war Mr. Jordan was for many years extensively engaged in the timber business, which finally brought him to Louisiana.
He was a loyal Democrat and never in his life bolted the ticket.
He cherished the memory of the fallen Confederacy, and as long as he was able to make such trips attended the annual reunion of Confederate veterans.
He belonged to but one order, namely, the Church of Christ, and said it was the only organization he had any need of. He keenly enjoyed its services and attended them every opportunity when physically able to do so.
He read the New Testament daily, and shaped his life by its teachings.
He was a man of the highest honor. In all his life no one ever accused him of uttering a falsehood or making a misleading statement. The general verdict on his character was summed up in a declaration by Hon. Fern M. Woods, a friend of many years, when after the funeral Monday he said: "A. C. Jordan was the noblest, purest, kindest and best man I ever knew."
Gentle and unassuming as a child, honest as truth itself, brave as a lion, pure as a mountain spring, and at all times reflecting the Divine love and goodness of the great "Author and finisher of our faith," he was indeed "a man, take him for all in all, we shall not look upon his like again."
Thanks to Rajordan for providing vital information and Obit.

Said to be the daughter of Zachariah JORDAN and Kisiah STEPHENS. Ruby Boyett Burkett writes that she may never had been legally married to William Jackson BOYETT, and that their relationship was a bit confusing and tangled.
It appears that she and William had several children born around the same time that William and his second wife, Martha Davis, were also having children.
It also appears that she was married/in another relationship at least twice after Williams death; first having a daughter named Viola BELL in 1902, and then marrying Isaac HALE in approximately 1903. She had her 11th child, Mattie HALE, in 1904.
If she had a total of 11 children, minus one that was a HALE and one that was a BELL, that left her with Nine by BOYETT. (Maybe eight if the child that died were born to Bell or Hale?.or less if she had another husband in there somewhere).

on Monday Afternoon
When G. E. Krapf entered his residence on East Houghton Street on Monday afternoon after working in his garden, he found his wife dead in bed. The son of Jacob KASAK and Katherine KALNY. He came to Milligan around 1870, with his two children, John and Barbara. There is no proof his wife came with them. If she died here, she would have been buried in the Kasak cemetery that has no markers. He homesteaded the E 1/2 SW 1/4 of Section 30 in Turkey Creek Township of Saline County. This tract of land was sold to his daughter, Barbara KOLAR, after his death. He filed a second homestead, the W 1/2 SW 1/4 of Section 30 in Turkey Creek Township, and contracted as well for the E 1/2 SW 1/4 of Liberty Township in Fillmore County. His son, John Jr., took over this land after his father's death. He eventually gave the land to his son, Peter KASAK. His obituary states he dropped dead about three-quarters of a mile from his home when he started out for cattle. (Milligan, p 323).
