She was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Ansley to Vern and Louise (Kaelin) Hayes.

On Feb. 24, 1946, she married Henry Stych in Ansley. He died in December 2007.

Survivors include her son, Rex of Broken Bow; daughter, Janice Martin of Beatrice; brother, Ralph Hayes of Granby, Colo.; sisters, Reva Skeen and Pearl Plambeck, both of Broken Bow, and Elaine Hanshew of Ansley; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

In fact her middle name was a tribute to her Aunt's husband.

Family Search shows that Sarah Elizabeth Haynes (L7GX-RHX) was a younger sister of Young Phelps. Sarah Elizabeth (born ca 1844 in Alabama) and Rufus Hester were also residents of Jasper, Texas. 		 STR06

Verda was born to William Edward & Lula Belle Haynes.

She married Roy Oscar Bennett in 1936.

She was a loving mother to her 4 boys and a doting grandmother to 8 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. She loved the Lord and was faithful to meet with God's people every Sunday & Wednesday night. She read her Bible daily and prayed for her family and friends by name. She wrote poetry and kept journals of how God worked in her life. Sometimes the poems would be about the Pastors sermon, she'd just heard. She loved her husband, Roy and treated him like a king. Up until her dying days she still wanted to do things for herself, even in pain.

She was a godly woman and is missed daily by this grandaughter. 		 STR06

Thomas Earl Heath of Lexington passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2004. He was 57. Thomas was born in Houston on February 15, 1947 to Harold E., Sr. and Mamie K. (Marshall) Heath. He worked as a truck driver with Newman and Keng Paving in Giddings. On October 13, 1981, he married Donna Dunkerley.

Preceded Thomas in death are his parents Harold E. Heath, Sr. and Mamie K. Heath. Survivors include: wife Dee Heath of Lexington; children, Thomas J. and wife Denise Heath of Alabama, Dana and husband Jim Cassidy of new Mexico, and Caroline Heath of Pennsylvania; brother Harold and wife Janet Heath of Lexington; and, eight grandchildren.

Service arrangements are pending with Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. 		 STR06

As a lifelong resident of the Roseville and Rocklin area, Uno Jacob Hebuck was especially suited to document the history of pioneer families of Placer County. Hebuck was born on September 27, 1897 in Roseville, California. The Uno J. Hebuck Collection is arranged in one series: 1. Manuscripts. Items span the years 1971 to 1977. Several items are undated.

As a lifelong resident of the Roseville and Rocklin area, Uno Jacob Hebuck was especially suited to document the history of pioneer families of Placer County. Hebuck was born on September 27, 1897 in Roseville, California. His parents were born in Finland, father Henry A. in 1869 and mother Sofia Haaga in 1871. The couple moved to 501 Tahoe Avenue, Roseville in 1889 and Henry worked in Rocklin as a blacksmith for a granite quarry. The family soon grew with the addition of eleven children, three of whom died. By 1907 the Hebuck children included Lewis, Sulo, Henry R., Lempi, Uno, Marie, Harvey, and Elvira. Henry then moved his family to Cemetery Road in Rocklin.

He used the settlement to purchase the farm in Hornersville. After his health improved, he was able to raise cotton, corn and soy. They eventually purchased some additional farmland near the Arkansas-Missouri state line, in Arybird, Missouri.  STR06

It has not been confirmed that the records above are for the same Jewel Thomas Hedrick that married Clara Belle Gaines.

After divorcing Clara Gaines, it is possible that Jewel Hedrick remarried, and was living in Kiowa, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, listed as being age 22. His wife, also age 22, was named Effie, and they had a 2 month old son, Junior. Also living with Jewel and his second wife were his parents, Frank and Mary Hedrick of Tennessee. At the time of the 1920 census, Frank and Mollie Hedrick can be found in Damon Twp, Latimer County, Oklahoma, along with three children, Larante, Olie and Jewel. That census listing, however, shows Jewel as born ca 1908 instead of 1898. This may have been simply an error in the transcription, but should be resolved. It is also possible there were two Jewel Hedrick's. 		 STR06

She references multiple land transactions of Milton's in the 1850's and 1860's with the Little Rock land office, and also indicates that he was on the 1850 Slave Schedule as a slave holder.

At the time of the 1850 and 1860 Census, he was living in Drew County, Arkansas with his first wife, Vernetta Jane McLEMORE.

Not located on the 1870 Census.

In 1880, his second wife, widowed, was living with their son in the Cane Creek Township of Lincoln County, Arkansas.

Melba indicates that he was buried on the old HEFLIN farm in Star City, Arkansas. 		 STR06

Gilbert J. Heflin Dies At Corsicana
CORSICANA, Texas, Dec. 28. -

Navarro Business Man and Land Owner Will Be Buried Friday.

Gilbert J. Heflin, 55 years old, well-known Navarro County business man and landowner, died at the Rufus Hardy home, 615 West Third avenue, at 2:25 o'clock Thursday morning. He had been in ill health for several years. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon, with members of the Halbert Masonic lodge, No. 641, of Frost, assisted by members of the Corsicana Masonic lodge No. 174, in charge, and the Rev. I. T. Jones, pastor of the Third Avenue Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be J. E. Butler, W. M. Peck, J. N. Edens and Charles H. Mills, all of Corsicana; and S. S. Hooser, R. L. Templeton, J. C. Keitt and John Beck, all of Frost. The following have been named honorary pallbearers: Captain James Garitty, B. F. Hartzell, El J. Sanders and J. M. Cole-all of Frost. Mr. Heflin came to Texas in 1889, settling at Waco, where he engaged in the drug business, later moving to Temple, and thence to Gatesville. While a resident of Temple, Mr. Heflin married Miss Overton Searcy on May 5, 1894. He came to Frost in December, 1895, where he engaged in the hardware business. In 1903 he organized the First National Bank in Frost, becoming its president. In 1905 he had three general mercantile businesses, in addition to his banking interests. Organizes Corsicana Bank. The following year Mr. Heflin moved from Frost to Corsicana and with R. B. Caldwell and J. A. Thompson, organized the First State Bank, in 1908. He afterwards sold out his partners and with Mr. Thompson purchased the Corsicana National Bank, becoming active vice president and cashier. About three years later he disposed of his interests in that bank and became a director and stockholder in the First National Bank here as well as acquiring considerable interests in the State National Bank. Mr. Heflin was president of the Lay-Heflin Company and the Heflin-Mitchell Dry Goods Company, both of Frost, and a stockholder and director in the Frost Oil Mill. He was an active business man until about eight years ago; failing health forced him to practically retire. Mr. Heflin was a member of the Baptist Church, a Mason and a Knight of Pythias. Mr. Heflin is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Corinne Davis, and one son, Gilbert Heflin, all of Corsicana.

Death Takes Lottie Kubik

Mrs. Lottie Kubik, 73, of 912 Elm, owner and operator of the Lottie K Shop in Duncan since 1956, died in a local hospital at 5 am today following a brief illness.

Born May 28, 1895, at Cordell, Mrs. Kubik had been a resident of Duncan since 1921 moving here from Pampa, Texas.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Her husband, Joe, died in 1958. A son Roderick died in 1965, in Duncan.

Survivors include two sons Amos, 221 N Eleventh and Dale, Kenniwick, Washington.

Service will be at 2 pm Wednesday in Don Grantham Funeral Chapel with the Rev. T Hollis Epton, pastor First Baptist, officiating. Burial will be in Duncan Cemetery under direction of Don Grantham funeral Home. 		 STR06

Hazel Gallagher

Mrs. Hazel Gallagher, 82, of Cass City died Thursday, August 10, at Provincial House.

She was born November 28, 1906 in Romeo, the daughter of Frank and Eliza (Hayse) Hegler.

Miss Hegler married Albert Gallagher November 12, 1926 in Novesta township. The couple lived in Cass City. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Cass City and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her husband, Albert; one son, Jack Gallager, and his wife Lois of Cass City; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Anne Adams, and her husband, Neil of Sterling; eight grandchildren, Pam and Morris Powell, Shelley and Ed Foy, John and Hope Gallagher, Laurie Adams-Cover and Mark Cover, Kitty and Paul Osier, Mark and Kim Adams, Scott Adams and Mary Card, Jeff Adams and Trish Brown; eight great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. William (Olive) Rohlfs of Caseville. Two great-grandchildren, one brother, Henry, and one sister, Myrtle, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. S. Joe Robertson, pastor, and Miss Cheryl Elfond, officiating.

Interment was in Elkland Cemetery, Cass City. 		 STR06

After a long illness, Theodore F. Heidenfelder, 87, 806 W. 14th, died Sunday at Jane Chinn Hospital.

Mr. Heidenfelder moved from St. Louis to Webb City three months ago after retiring from Famous Barr, St. Louis.

He was born June 25, 1897 in New Ulm, Minn. He was a veteran of World War II and a member St. Vincents DePaul Catholic Church of St. Louis.

Services were held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Webb City. The Rev. Father Fergus Monaghan officiated and Simpson Funeral Home directed the services. Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Heidenfelder leaves his wife, Mrs. Elzora Heidenfelder of the home, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Francis Clark, Webb City, and Mrs. Patricia Saunsacie, St. Louis, and four grandchildren.

He was born in Fremont, Nebraska, to Howard and Mable Elizabeth Heller. Rodney was raised on the family farm in Nebraska and moved to San Augustine and Sabine Counties in 1953 after graduating from High School. Rodney worked as a Meat Inspector for the USDA. He attended the New Hope Baptist Church in Milam and loved to hunt and especially loved his dogs.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Sandra Heller of Hemphill; his son, Randy Heller and his wife, Mary; daughters, Sheryl Brannan and her husband, Steve, Sheila Brown, and Sharon Taylor and husband, Rusty. He is also survived by step-sons, Brock Poole and his wife, Margaret, Zachary Poole, and numerous grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00, Dec. 24, 2020, in the Macune Cemetery, San Augustine County, Texas, under the direction of Starr Funeral Home.

Beatrice ERB

Beatrice ERB, age 102, life-long resident of Huron County, died Saturday, September 22, 2001 at Season's Change Nursing home in Bay Port.

She was born February 15, 1899 in Cass City to the late Henry and Caroline (Lash -sic) Helwig.

Beatrice and Russell were unitled in marriage at the First United Methodist Churhc of Cass City on December 25, 1919. He preceded her in death in 1987.

Beatrice devoted her life to education. She taught in the rural school system for more than 40 years. She was a memeber of the Bad Axe First United Methodist Church. She graduated from County Normal College.

She is survided by one daughter, Audrey Bradenbrugh of Sebewaing, three grandchildren; Jerry Bradenburg of Muskegon, JIm Bradenburf of Sebewaing, Pam Pryor and her husband Jim of Caro, and nine great-grandchildren, Jeff and Jason Brandenburt of Clarkston, Nathan, Jamie and Brian Bradenburg of Sebewaing, Nicki and Ryan Badour of Fairgrove, and Taylor and Tanner Pryor of Caro.

Beatrice was preceded in deaht by one grandchild, Cindy Badour.

A memorial service will take place 11:00 am on Thursday, September 27 at MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Rev. WIlliam Wright of Bad Axe First United Methodist Church will officiate.

Obituaries

Clark Helwig

Lifelong Cass City resident Clark Helwig died May 10 at Hills and Dales General Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 77.

Helwig was born May 22, 1911, in Elkland Township, the son of the late Edward and Mary Striffler Helwig.

He was united in marriage to Myrtle WALTERS April 15, 1939, in Cass City, where they made their home. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary April 15 of this year.

Helwig was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Cass City, and the Thumb CB Club.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. One son, William; one daughter, Judy, and one granddaughter, Dawn, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Friday at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clare Patton, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City.

Services for Long Time Resident Today

Funeral services for Edward Helwig were held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Cass City. The Rev. Stanley Kirn of Columbiaville officiated.

Mr. Helwig was born in Lancaster, New York, in 1877, son of the late George and Catherine Warner Helwig. He came to this community with his parents when a child and has been a member of the Cass City EUB church since. He served as Sunday School superintendent for 17 years.

In 1906 he married Miss Mary Striffler in Cass City and following their marriage they made their home on a farm on Schwegler Road where they have lived since. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1956.

Mr. Helwig had been in ill health for three years and died at his residence Monday.

Surviving are his wife; son son, Clark, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Cora Klinkman and Mrs. Clara Bartle, both of Cass City, and Mrs. Russell (Minerva) Sherman of Caro; one brother, George Helwig of Buffalo, N.Y.; one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.

Little's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and burial was in Elkland cemetery.

Grief over death of wife on January 4 Hastened his End

George Helwig, for 36 years a resident of Elkland Township, passed away at his home shortly after the noon hour Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the age of 69 years. Mr. Helwig has been a sufferer of heart trouble for a number of years. Grief over the death of his wife, who passed away on January 4 aggravated his disease and brought to an end his earthly career just 20 days of after that of his companion. Geo. Helwig was born in Lancaster, N.Y., on April 1, 1847. On Feb. 10, 1870, he was united in marriage with Miss Catherine Warner and in 1881 they with their children moved from Lancaster to Cass City and established a home on the farm 2 1/2 miles east of the village where Mr. and Mrs. Helwig enjoyed life until they anwered the summons of the Death Angel. Mr. Helwig was a respected citizen and for many years was a member of the school board in his district. In Lancaster, he united with the M.E. church, and after coming to Cass City, he became a member of the local Evangelical church and was among its most faithful attendants. Health and weather permitting, Mr. Helwig was sure to be in his accustomed place in the Sunday service. He served the society as trustee and class leader and for a time presided as Sunday School superintendent of the schoolhouse on the county line. Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon--at the house at one o'clock and at the Evangelical church at two.

Deceased is survived by ten children, Mrs. Grant McCONNELL, Mrs. Geo. BURTLE, Mrs. Samuel JAUS, Mrs. Harve KLINKMAN, Mrs. Clare SPURGEON, Edward and Samuel HELWIG, all of Cass City, Mrs. Wm. COOPER of Flint, and Miss Minnie and George HELWIG, both of Lancaster, NY, three brothers, Jacob and Wm. HELWIG of Cass City, and Samuel HELWIG of Lancaster, NY, and four sisters, Mrs. J.H. STRIFFLER of Cass City, Mrs. Thos. MANN, Mrs. Andrew NICKERT and Mrs. Frank SIMMETT, all of Carson City, Mich.

Mrs. Grant McConnell Passed Away Sunday After Long Illness
Funeral services for Mrs. Harriet McConnell, 79, widow of Grant McConnell, were held
Wednesday at 1:30 p. m. in the Evangelical United Brethren Church of which she was a member. Fev. S. P. Kirn officiated and burial was made in Elkland cemetery. Mrs. McConnell, ill for 14 months since breaking a hip, died Sunday, afternoon in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jacob Hiller.

She was born in Lancaster, N. Y., on Christmas Day, 1870, and at the age of ten years came with her parents, the late George and Catherine Warner Helwig, to this vicinity. On April 21,1892, she was married to Grant McConnell who died 18 years ago. Two sisters, Mrs. Sam Jaus and Mrs. Kate Cooper also preceded her in death.

She leaves her daughter, Mrs. Hiller, two grandchildren, Floyd Hiller of Cass City and Mrs. Francis (Irene) Karner of Clio; two great grandchildren; four sisters, Miss Minnie Helwig, Mrs. Clara Bartle and Mrs. Cora Klinkman, of Cass City and Mrs. Russell (Minerva) Sherman, of Caro; and three brothers; Edward and Samuel Helwig of Cass City and George Helwig of Buffalo, N.Y.

Mrs. Judy Finkbeiner, 46, a lifelong resident of Cass City, succumbed Sunday, July 13, at her home after a long illness.

She was born March 15, 1940, in Cass City, the daughter of Clark and Myrtle (Walters) Helwig.

Miss Helwig was united in marriage to Donald Finkbeiner Oct. 11, 1958, in Cass City where they made their home.

She was past president of the Cass City Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Cass City.

Mrs. Finkbeiner is survived by her husband, Donald; five sons, Mr Jeffrey Finkbeiner, USN, Norfolk, Va., Jim, Clark and Donald, all at home; three daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Susan) Kady II of Gagetown, Sally and Sharon, at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Helwig of Cass City, and two grandsons.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dawn, and one brother, William.

She was taken from Little's Funeral Home Thursday to the Salem United Methodist Church to lie in state until 1 p.m., time of funeral services. Rev. Clare Patton, pastor, officiated.

Burial was in Elkland Cemetery, Cass City.

Mrs. Samuel Jaus

Funeral services for Mrs. Samuel Jaus were held at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Evangelical church. Rev. C.F. SMITH officiated and burial was in Elkland cemetery. Lena Katie HELWIG was born May 1, 1879, at Lancaster, New York, and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George HELWIG, to Cass City when two years of age. They settled on a farm 2 1/2 miles east of town. She was married to Samuel JAUS March 12, 1902, and they have since made their home on a farm 3 miles north and 1 1/2 miles east of town. Mrs. JAUS has been poorly for some time and has been confined to her bed the last six weeks. She was taken to the Morris hospital Wednesday of last week, and passed away Saturday afternoon, May 9.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Minnie Edith, at home. A son, George Alvin, died February 12, 1921. She also leaves three brothers and six sisters, Mrs. Grant McCONNELL, Mrs. George BARTLE, Samuel HELWIG and Mrs. Harve KLINKMAN, all of Cass City, Miss Minnie HELWIG of Lancaster, New York, Edward HELWIG of Bad Axe, Mrs. William COOPER of Flint, George HELWIG of Buffalo, New York, and Mrs. Russell SHERMAN of Caro. All the brothers and sisters attended the funeral. Mrs. Jaus was a member of the Cass City Evangelical church and the Woman's Missionary Society, and a member of Elkland Arbor, A.O.O.G. 		 STR06

Funeral of Mrs. Striffler will be Held Here Sunday

Mrs. Sophia Striffler, age 86, passed away in the Pleasant Home Hospital on Thursday morning, after 10 days of illness due to a broken hip.

The body is at the Little Funeral Home and will remain there until Sunday, when a prayer service will be conducted at noon. The body will lie in state at the Evangelical Church until 2:30 p.m. where the funeral services will be held. Rev. S. P. Kirn will officiate, and burial will be in Elkland Cemetery.

Mrs. Striffler was born April 17, 1860, at Lancaster, New York, and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Helwig. Following her marriage to Jacob Striffler at that place on January 22, 1880, they came directly to Cass City. Mr. Striffler died here in 1925. Mrs. Striffler was a member of the Evangelical Church here.

Suriving are a son, C.J. Striffler of Cass City; four daughters, Mrs. O.W. Nique of Decker, Mrs. A.A. Ricker of Bradenton, Florida, Mrs. F.A. Smiley of Drayton Plains and Mrs. A. W. Weaver of Flint; three grandchildren; two great granchildren, and two brothers, Wm. and Jacob Helwig of Cass City.

Willam Helwig Dies in Tractor Accident

William B. Helwig, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Helwig of Cass City, was killed in a tragic accident Wednesday afternoon, June 11, when he was pinned under the wheel of a tractor on Bay City-Forestville Road, about five miles east of Gagetown.

He and a companion, Walter W. Jezewski, 14, had been driving the tractors in zig-zag fashion on the road when the accident occurred.

Marshal William Wood and Bad Axe State Police Troopers Ronald Warner and Noel Rowe investimaged. John Zinnecker was a witness to the accident and described the travel of the tractors.

The machines had been taken from the Helwig farm without the knowledge of William's parents.

Coroner Benson Collon of Caro said death was due to a crushed chest, internal hemorrhage and a broken back.

William had just completed his freshman year at Cass City High School. He was born in Cass City June 24, 1943, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Helwig.

Surviving, besides his parents, are a sister, Judith Ann, at home, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Helwig of Cass City.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Little's Funeral Home. Rev. S.R. Wurtz, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethern Church, officiated.

Burial was in Elkland Cemetery.

WELSH-------Funeral services for Curtis Ray Henderson, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July18, in First Baptist Church. The Revs. Mike Gilchrist, John Couch, and Kevin Moore will officiate. Burial will be I Oaklawn Cemetery under direction of Hixson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 3-10 p.m. today, July 17 and from 8 a.m. until noon Monday at the funeral home and from 1-2 at the church. Mr. Henderson died at 2:30 Saturday in a local hospital. A native of Auburn, Ky. He had lived in Welsh since 1934. He was a retired electrician.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Anne Mae ( McLemore) Henderson, three sons, Elvis R. "Red" Henderson of Neptune, N.j. , Herbert C. Henderson of San Ramon, Calif., and Robert D. Henderson of Waco, Texas; six daughters, Vivian H. McMillan of Orange, Texas, Linda F. Wilkinson of Spring, Texas,Maxine A. Moore of Freeport, Texas, Patricia "Pat" Woodson of Port Arthur, Texas, Betty G. Lonnis of Idalou, Texas, and Brenda S. Services for Dorothy LaVern Stamper, 93, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born March 1, 1913, at Whiteright, Texas, to Willie Trenton and Ester Murphy Henderson, she died May 27, 2006, at Kimberling City, Mo. Her beloved husband, Bill Stamper, preceded her in death Sept. 14, 1966.

She graduated from Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University, in May 1937. She met her husband, Bill, at Cameron Junior College in Lawton and he taught her the gospel. They were married Oct. 10, 1937, at Duncan. They had two children, Clint Stamper and Kay Istre.
They moved to Ardmore in 1941 and worshiped at Central Church of Christ. They were actually part of that church planting and Bill was one of the original elders. LaVern taught fifth grade at Dickson and third grade at Lincoln Elementary School at Ardmore for a total of 28 years and retired in 1978. She moved to Abilene, Texas, and then on July 5, 2004, she moved to Tablerock Health Care Alzheimer's Unit at Kimberling City, where she lived until her death.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Sanders, Linn, Kan., and Betty Seidlitz, Kerrville, Texas; her two children, Clint Stamper, and his wife, Vickie, Kimberling City, and Kay Istre and her husband, Elvis, Abilene. Her grandchildren, Kim and Randy Hancock, Abilene; Brad and Holly Morrisett, Edmond, Kara and Scott Corley, Vancouver, Wash., Renee and Marty Cobarruvias, Abilene, Lance and Jennifer Morrisett, Haven, Kan., and Melissa and Greg Buckovatz, Springfield, Mo. and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 7-8 p.m. Monday.
Memorials can be made to Alzheimer's Research of the charity of choice.

James Delbert Henderson

James Delbert Henderson, age 57, of Hemphill died at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 1996, at Hemphill Care Center.

He was born April 26, 1938, in Jasper as a son of the late Bronson and Myrtle (Seale) Henderson. A retired pipeline construction worker, Henderson was a U. S. Army Veteran.

Suvivors: a daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Don Eddings of Hemphill; a sister, Wanda Robinson of Jasper; and two grandchildren, Devin Eddings and Danielle Eddings, both of Hemphill.

Graveside rites were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Springhill Cemetery near Hemphill with Bro. Ed Robinson officiating. Arrangements were handled by Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill.

She was born July 14, 1925, near Arenzville, the daughter of Henry and Mathilda Hendricker. She married Ben Crocker of Saginaw, Michigan, December 28, 1949.

She is survived by her husband, Ben of Farmington, Michigan; two sons, Dennis Crocker of Olatha, Kansas and Curtis Crocker of Dayton, Ohio; one daughter Lori Vollmer of the Detroit, Michigan area; six grandchildren; two brothers, Irvin Hendricker of Beardstown and Harold Hendricker of Arenzville; four sisters, Rose Edge of Chandlerville, Ada Bennett of Griggsville, Bertha Wankel of Beardstown, and Vera Johnson of Salinas, California.

Funeral services were held at the First church of the Nazarene, Detroit Michigan on August 2.

Henry Hendricker

Henry Hendricker, 83, a retired farmer of the Beardstown-Arenzville Community passed away early this morning at Schmitt Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for three weeks.

Mr. Hendricker was born on March 1, 1884, the son of Charles and Sophia Jockisch Hendricker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Ralph and 2 children in infancy.

He is survived by: his wife, Tillie; six daughters, Mrs. Arthur "Myrtle" Carls, of Beardstown, Mrs. Raymond "Rose" Edge of Chandlerville, Mrs. Frank "Ada" Bennett of Griggsville, Mrs. Ben "Phyllis" Crocker, of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Ralph "Bertha" Wankel of Beardstown. Mrs. Calvin "Vera" Johnson of Salinas, Calfornia; three sons. Homer Hendricker of Beardstown, Irvin Hendricker of Beardstown, Harold Hendricker of Arenzville; 36 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; four sisters, Bessie Hendricker, Mrs. Hattie Larson, Mrs. Julia Roat, Mrs. Lydia Roat all of Havana; and 1 brother, R.W. Hendricker of Beardstown.

Funeral services will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene in Beardstown on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with visitation at the Cline Funeral Home from 7 til 9 p.m. on Saturday evening. Anyone wishing to donate may do so to the Bethel Nazarene Church Fund or the Schmitt Memorial Hospital Fund. Burial will be in the City cemetery.

Mathilda L. Hendricker, 93, Rural Route I, Arenzville, died Oct. 9, 1980, at Beardstown Hospital.

Mrs. Hendricker was born in Cass County April 9, 1887, daughter of Henry and Christina Menge Krohe. She married Henry Hendricker near Bluff Springs Dec. 18, 1907, and he died Nov. 9, 1967.

Survivors include three sons, Homer and Irvin, both of Beardstown, and Harold, Arenzville; six daughters: Mrs. Arthur (Myrtle) Carls and Mrs. Ralph (Bertha) Wankle, both of Beardstown; Mrs. Raymond (Rosa) Edge, Chandlerville; Mrs. Frank (Ada) Bennett, Griggsville; Mrs. Benniet (Phyllis) Crocker, Plymouth, Mich.; and Mrs. Calvin (Vera) Johnson, Salinas, Calif.; 36 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by four sisters, a brother, two sons and a daughter.

Mrs. Hendricker was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene and was a charter member of the Friendly Circle Club.

Services were Oct. 12 at Beardstown Church of the Nazarene. Burial was in Beardstown City Cemetery.

Betty Jean Burklund was born to Jerry Hendrych Sr. and Libbie (Brydl) Hendrych on July 28, 1934 in Milligan, Nebraska, and passed away November 10, 2013 at Exeter Care Center in Exeter, Nebraska at the age of 79 years. She was one of three children in the family.

Betty grew up in Milligan, Nebraska where she graduated high school. Shortly after high school, she began working as a waitress at Agnes's in Milligan. Betty was married to Lloyd Burklund on November 17, 1958 in Concordia, Kansas and to them 1 child was born, Jimmy Lee Burklund in 1959. They moved to Geneva in 1966 where they made their home. Betty lived in Geneva until 2012 when she moved to the Exeter Care Center.

Betty enjoyed cooking and had a ton of recipes that she always knew where to find. She also enjoyed crocheting and is known for her famous hand towels that she has made for family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her only great grandchild, Brennon. Her cat, Sweety was also a big part in her life. Betty made an extraordinary impact on everyone who met her and she will be greatly missed by many.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, Jerry, her mother, Libbie, her husband, Lloyd, her grandson, Jordan Burklund and her beloved cat, Callie.

Betty is survived by her son, Jimmy Burklund and his wife, Sherri of Geneva; her brother Jerry Hendrych Jr. and his wife, Carol of Geneva; her sister, Diann and husband John Steyer of Lincoln; her sister, Teresa Smith of Fairbury; her grandchildren, Scott, Charman and Brandon Burklund all of Geneva, her granddaughter, Tiffany Burklund and her great grandson, Brennon Lemke of Lincoln; many nieces and nephews; countless friends and her cat, Sweety.

Helen J. Havel was born to Jaroslav and Anezka Hendrych on Oct. 16, 1921 on a farm northwest of Milligan and passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at her home at the age of 92.
Helen attended public school at Milligan, graduating in 1938 with a Normal Training Certificate. She taught in rural schools for four years, one year with a special permit due to the shortage of teachers during WWII.
Helen married Donald Havel on Dec, 31, 1945 in Wilber, making their home in Milligan. They had one daughter, Norene Kay born April 21, 1955. Don passed away April 27, 2000.
The family moved to Exeter in 1958 and back to Milligan in 1986. Helen worked many different jobs in her lifetime in addition to teaching; in drug and grocery stores, at a produce station and as a nanny in Lincoln before and after marriage. While living in Exeter Helen worked at Barkmeier's part and full time for over 25 years. She concluded her "work life" at Heritage Crossings in Geneva from July 1993 to 2002 and retired at age 80.
Helen was a charter member of the Friend Hospital Auxiliary and 8/40 Bleu Valle Salon #766. She held Unit, County and District 11 offices in the American Legion Auxiliary of which she was a member for 68 years and a member of the W.B.L.A. for over 75 years. She was received into full membership of The Methodist Church Dec. 20, 1953. While living in Exeter she was active in the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and First Thursday Club. After retirement she helped deliver meals for "Meals on Wheels" and was a member of the Milligan Senior Citizens.
Helen enjoyed yard work, word search and crossword puzzles, watching TV and following the activities of Exeter-Milligan students and the Cornhuskers via newspaper, radio and TV. She was an excellent cook and her duck and liver dumpling soup Holiday meals were enjoyed by many throughout the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Don; parents; sister, Agnes Halama; brothers, Jerry Hendrych and Adoph Hendrych; son-in-law, William Fitzgerald; brothers-and-sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Helen is survived by daughter, Norene and son-in-law Bill Kidder of Sargent and two sisters-in-laws, Sister Frances Ann Havel of Grand Island and Virgie (Bill) Smith of Lincoln; nephews, nieces, step grandchildren, cousins, many friends and good neighbors.
Private family inurnment at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell will take place later this summer. Memorials are directed to the family for later designation.

She has given many of her oil paintings to relatives, who display them with great pride. Opal and her sister-in-law Velta Rawson McLemore were cousins.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Opal Hensarling McLemore 94, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2012, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in San Augustine, Texas followed by internment at Liberty Hill Memorial Gardens. Mrs. McLemore was born January 10, 1918, in Denning Community, San Augustine County, to the late Abram Hensarling and Vivian Garrett Hensarling. She passed away Monday, January 23, 2012, in Nacogdoches, Texas. Opal had an active interest in gardening, painting and cooking. First and foremost, she was a Christian woman with deeply embedded Christian values. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed tremendously by her family and friends. Opal was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ira "Ray" McLemore in 1991. She was also preceded in death by their daughter Linda Ann McLemore Jackson in 1985. Opal is survived by her son Vernon Earl McLemore and wife Brenda McLemore of Nacogdoches, Texas. Grandchildren Larry Jackson and wife Fannie of San Augustine, Texas; Varron McLemore and wife Rae Janette of Nacogdoches, Texas; Sarah McLemore Hudgins and husband Todd of Olive Branch, Mississippi. Angela Strong and husband Curtis of Bryan, Texas; Michelle Strong and husband Barry of Flower Mound, Texas; and Melissa Crabtree of Bryan, Texas; 15 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Having resided in Nacogdoches for the past 36 years, visitation will be held from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home, Nacogdoches, with services Friday at 10am in her hometown of San Augustine. Hazel E. Murray

Services for Mrs. Hazel E. Murray, 88, of Nacogdoches, will be held on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home with Bro. Jeremiah Moss and Bro. Waylon Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Chireno Lower Cemetery. She died on August 11, 2008 in Nacogdoches.

Hazel was born in Denning on March 9, 1920, the daughter of the late Abram and Vivian (Garrette) Hensarling. She was a member of Calvart Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Hazel is survived by three daughters, Noreita GARTMAN and husband William of Chireno, Sue WISENER and husband Larry Wayne of Nacogdoches and Betty L. FULTS and husband Jerry Don of Nacogdoches; three sons, Hershell F. MURRAY and wife Barbara of Henderson, Gary L. MURRAY and wife Kathy of Chireno and Bradford D. Murray and wife Karen of Nacogdoches. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews; one sister, Opal McLEMORE of Nacogdoches and several step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3623 Buckingham, Nacogdoches TX 75965 or to Calvary Baptist Church, 3732 NE Stallings Dr., Nacogdoches, TX 75965.

Laird Funeral Home in Nacogdoches is in charge of arrangements.
