Tony O. Zager, 80, of Buna died Monday, Apirl 29, 1996, at a Beaumont hospital.
Born Sept. 17, 1915, in the Little Flock community as a son of the late John and Minnie Jane (Smith) Zager, he had lived in Buna since 1941 where he owned and operated Tony's Gulf Station. He was a member of First Baptist Church, first acting chief of Buna Volunteer Fire Department, past master of Buna Masonic Lodge #1095, past patron of Buna Chapter #968 Order of the Eastern Star, member of Buna Lions Club, served on the Buna Water Board, and was named "Citizen of the Year Emeritus" by the Buna Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors: wife, Tiny Zager of Buna; son, Tony C. Zager, Sr. and wife Martha of Lufkin; daughters Bobbie A. Hymel of Santa Fe; sisters, Clarice Key of Pineland and Verneeda Erzen of Jasper; four grandchildren, Tony C. Zager Jr., John J. Zager, Debra K. Kerring, and William C. Hymel; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Buna, with Bro. B. A. Carlin and Bro. Bob Cheek officiating. Interment followed with Masonic rites at Antioch Cemetery near Buna. Arrangements were handled by Stringer Funeral Home in Buna.
Pallbearers: Tony C. Zager, Jr., John Zager, Chris Hymel, J. D. Hymel, W. H. Hambrick, E. W. Ener Jr., J. P. Harris, and Herman McKee.
