    • The STRIFFLER-BENKELMAN BROADCAST, dated September 5, 1960, Volume 23, reported that Wesley L. Ball joined the U.S. Navy on June 21. He was expected home for a fourteen-day leave September 1, after which he will take up further duty in Virginia.

      The 1961 issue of the Broadcast further reported that he was returning to Virginia from a tour of duty in the Caribbean.

      In the 1964 issue, it was noted he was discharged from the Navy on March 26, 1964. He had served four years, the last 18 months aboard the U.S.S. Holland.

      Obituary

      Wesley L. Ball, 80, of Reese, died early Wednesday morning, August 3, 2022, at his residence.

      He was born April 11, 1942, in Cass City. Son of the late Grant and Laura (Crocker) Ball and was a 1960 graduate of Cass City High School. After his graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country from 1960-1964.

      Wes was employed by Reese Lumber Co. for thirty-seven years, where he served as Manager for many years. He was a member of the Reese United Methodist Church and served his community as a member of the Reese School Board for over fifteen years, was a member of the Reese Planning Commission, and the Reese American Legion Post #139. He enjoyed being with his family, especially hunting with his sons and grandsons. His other favorite hobbies included taking care of his lawn, making sure the mowing lines were exact, and playing cards with his friends.

      Committal Services in the Denmark Township Cemetery. Full Military Graveside Honors will be presented by the U. S. Naval Honor Guard and the Reese American Legion Post #139.

    • Volume 23 of the Striffler-Benkelman Broadcast, dated September 7, 1963, noted that Mr. and Mrs. Grant Ball (Laura Crocker) were given a surprise party in their home by the E. U. B. "Golden Rule" Sunday School Class July 15 in honor of their silver wedding anniversary.
