Willie Halbert, 94, of Milam died Saturday, June 22, 1996, at Sabine County Hospital in Hemphill.
He was born June 14, 1902, as a son of the late Mary (Smith) and William Washington Halbert and was a lifelong resident of the Milam area. Halbert was a self-employed farmer, was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the Sons of the Republic of Texas.
Survivors: wife, Dessie Dent Halbert of Milam; a daughter, Laverne Roberts of Milam; grandchildren, Judy and Don Wilson. Buck and Susie Jacks, and Kay and Milton Powell, all of Milam; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley Wilson, Brady Powell, Robin Powell, Amber Powell, and Crystal Powell, all of Milam.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphillwith Bro. Clarence Howell and Bro. Milton Powell officiating. Interment followed at the Joel Halbert (Fox Hill) Cemetery near Milam.
